Located at the entrance channel to the bay, it invites you to travel back in time to the 18th century, when pirates and corsairs roamed these troubling seas. The fortress was declared a National Monument on October 10th, 1978 and opened as a museum on March 24th, 1998.

The route borders the east coast of the channel up to the height of Pasacaballo Hotel where you will cross the channel to visit the castle. • Cienfuegos - Bonjour Cienfuegos

    Description

Founded by the French in 1819, Cienfuegos is one of Cuba’s newest settlements and feels quite different to the rest of the country: perfect symmetry in its urban layout, neoclassical constructions and a long pedestrian promenade. The city center was declared a UNESCO Heritage Site in 2005 as the best example of 19th century urban planning principles in the Americas.

Your tour begins with a guided walking tour with a Cuban expert in the main square at Parque Jose Marti. You will be educated on the iconic buildings and landmarks surrounding the square such as the Cathedral, Ferrer Palace, the City Hall and Terry Theater. Sharing French and Italian influences, Terry Theater is grand from the outside (look for the gold-leafed mosaics on the front facade), but even grander within. Built between 1887 and 1889 to honor Venezuelan industrialist Tomás Terry, the 950-seat auditorium is embellished with Carrara marble, hand-carved Cuban hardwoods and whimsical ceiling frescoes. Also, a short visit to a traditional Bodega (shop for the locals) will be made possible to allow you to discover how locals have access to their basic rationed products.

Continue your educational exchange with an exclusive presentation of world renowned “Cantores de Cienfuegos” choir at the provincial museum. After the performance, interact with the choir members and learn about the challenges they face as young artists in Cuba today. Finish your tour with a scenic drive with your Cuban historical expert of the region as you travel through the main streets and avenues of the city. Stop at Palacio del Valle, considered the Cuban Taj Mahal, and one of the finest examples of eclectic architecture in the city. Enjoy a refreshing Cuban cocktail before returning to the port

Testimonials

...We had a great time-best ever, and will be coming back...Charlie and I feel like we've been yachting with our "best friends". Hard to believe we didn't know anyone on the yacht 8 days ago-now we've met new traveling friends for the years to come. Mr & Mrs Charles HoganSeattle, Washington
Fabulous yacht, magnificent food, great people, superb service, I can think of a few more adjectives, but to summarize – save and go on it – probably the best vacation I ever went on. Ian CaseySan Francisco, California
