  • Porto Ercole - Discover the Cheeses of Tuscany 149(USD)
    24 spaces remaining

    Description

If you're a cheese lover, in Tuscany you will find a wide choice of products. Tuscan cheeses are made following ancient techniques and production processes handed down by families over the centuries. This is your opportunity to discover the Caseificio Sociale – an agricultural company founded in 1961 by 21 local breeders. What brought them together was their desire to enhance the production of sheep’s milk coming from the Maremma Grosseto area. Sheep farming has been one of the main sources of livelihood for centuries and has been handed down from generation to generation. Today the Cheesemaking cooperative is made up of 250 dairy farming members of all sizes located between Manciano and neighboring municipalities. They rely on 60,000 sheep that produce about 8 million liters of milk per year. They are also associated with about ten breeders of dairy cattle, whose milk is used for the production of blended cheese made from cow’s and sheep’s milk. The production, only made with milk from dairy farming members, is very diverse and known for its quality and authenticity. This is confirmed by their ‘classic’ fresh and matured cheeses such as Pecorino Toscano PDO (named after the Italian word “pecora” meaning sheep) which highlights the Maremma’s unique and bold flavors of this land. Their most delicious and refined cheeses are a result of continuous investment on improving the product and being able to meet special demands, including those cheeses for guests with food intolerances. And let’s not forget about their ricotta, which has been appreciated since ancient times for its unique sweetness and taste. You will visit the Factory and get to see the processes required to make the various cheeses and following the tour you will have a tasting of their production. After the visit of the Cheese Factory you will drive to Orbetello. This cute coastal town is backed by hills and fronted by the lagoon with the sea beyond. The village is completely pedestrianized, making it a safe and charming place to wander through the narrow streets with free time for independent exploration, soaking in the atmosphere and sun. After approximately 1 hour you will rejoin the motor-coach that returns you to the pier and your yacht.
