Walking tour of Monemvasia & Wine Tasting at Local Winery

Stroll around the Medieval town of Monemvasia enjoying breathtaking views and taste the local area’s wines at a local winery. Monemvasia, often referred as the “ Gibraltar of Greece”, is undoubtedly unique with its fortified medieval town built on a reddish-brown rock and surrounded by the blue sea. Board your shuttle bus from the tender point and start your exploration by entering the one and only gate of the city (Monemvasia means Moni=sole, Emvasia = entrance). The old stone built mansions, the picturesque lanes and the numerous Byzantine churches create an environment of superb beauty. Monemvasia is split in two, the lower town and the upper town. Walking on the main alley and admiring the wonderful architecture of the houses on your left and right hand, you will end up at the square of Elkomenos. The square is dominated by the church of Elkomenos on the left, a mosque converted into a museum on the right and an old Turkish cannon in the middle of it. The Minoans and the Mykonos had lively festivities, with refreshing and quenching drops of grape juice in honor of the Greek Wine God - Dionysus. From the 12th century and for five hundred years, Malvasia wine dominated the Eastern and Western markets. Experience a wine tour in 6000 years of wine history. Building on this unique tradition, Monemvasia Winery, created a modern winery that processes grapes from the area of Monemvasia with knowledge and respect to the history of its region. Enjoy the tour of the winery and the tasting of selective wines and local snacks before you re board your coach for the return way to Monemvasia town.
