Yachting Land Adventure

Hiking the Rock of Gibraltar

A clash between nature and WWII historical sites will make this hiking adventure an amazing opportunity to learn about Gibraltar’s history and appreciate its natural beauty. Perched precariously about 420 m above the sea lies one of the greatest areas for natural beauty in Europe, The Upper Rock Nature Reserve. Considered to be the one of the largest attractions of Gibraltar, it is where guests can see multiple natural attractions, wildlife, numerous plant species and other rarities not found elsewhere in the world.

The trail starts quite level, winding along the side of the rock, occasionally finding points of steep, switchback stairs that bring you closer and closer to the top. The views are breathtaking as you hike The Upper Rock Nature Reserve. The British Garrison has historically maintained a strong presence on the Upper Rock, and before WWII, defensive batteries were constructed on most promontories on the Rock for protection. Defensive guns can still be seen at Princess Caroline’s and Princess Amelia’s Batteries. This hiking Yachting Land Adventure provides a whole new perspective to your visit to Gibraltar.

Notes: Comfortable walking shoes are recommended with good traction for the sometimes-rocky terrain. Don’t forget your sunscreen, bring plenty of water and a jacket – it can get windy at the top. Any snacks, or scented lotions, should be sealed away in a backpack. Gibraltar is famous for its large Barbary macaque population, and the apes are familiar with finding snacks they can steal from unsuspecting visitors! A minimum participation is required to operate all Yachting Land Adventures, and some may have limited capacity. All adventures in the SeaDream Yachting Land Adventures program are subject to change. Final departure times will be published on-board.
