  • Havana

The capital of the island nation and the most populated at over 2.1 million residents, Havana is the 4th most populous area in the Caribbean region. The walled capital was founded by Span in the 16th century. The sinking of an American warship in 1898 signaled the beginning of the Spanish-American war. “Old Havana” became a UNESCO World Heritage site in the 80’s. Havana experienced exponential growth in the 1930’s when the city became a major tourist destination until 1959 when Fidel Castro came into power following the revolution. Visitors to Havana enjoy colorful displays of culture, architecture, music, and the arts.

  • Maria La Gorda

Maria la Gorda, part of the Western Cuban province of Pinar del Rio is a scuba diver’s dream and another yachting port where bigger ships cannot follow. The port is full of lush natural landscapes, native birds and animals, and the sea life is simply spectacular. The shimmering, aqua colored waters welcome experienced and beginner divers and snorkelers. Authentic Cuban Mojitos and fresh seafood are served by locals right on the beach. Experiencing this Island’s sunset should definitely be at the top of your “to do” list.

    Description

This land adventure will show you the real, remote Cuba that many people have not experienced in a place where tourism is close to non-existent. Transfer by lorry to the small, remote Fishing Community, Cocodrilo accompanied by a local guide. You will notice the varied fauna of this well preserved ecosystem and continuing on to the township of Cocodrilo. The village was constructed in 1897, it’s very small and far away from everything but they have a small, perfectly working society and you will get the opportunity to visit and learn more about it. This village dates back to when British nationals came from Grand Cayman and founded the town of Cocodrilo. Although the present population is not from Grand Cayman there are still traces of this island in the architectural style of some of its houses. This remote location has a school, medical care, social center, local radio station and other facilities. Your informative guide will tell you all about Cocodrilo, Isla de la Juventud and will also take you to the local school which will most likely be the smallest one you have ever seen. The roads are bumpy and the ride to the town itself will be an experience, so be prepared to be a little adventurous.
