Ports

  • Bridgetown

SeaDream uses the port of Bridgetown as the hub for their Southern Caribbean voyages as well as some voyages that cross the Atlantic. The Island itself includes UNESCO Heritage Sites, excellent beaches and history dating back to 1628. The climate is tropical with constant warm temperatures during the year cooled by light trade winds.

  • At Sea

  • Funchal, Madeira

Funchal is considered the sixth largest city in Portugal, and for five centuries, it has also been the capital of Portugal’s Autonomous Region of Madeira. Funchal has a rich history, which quickly became a populated settlement due to its productive soils, and its surrounding valley having a natural amphitheater shape that provided shelter for early settlers. SeaDream guests may visit top tourist locations such as Blandy's Wine Lodge, the open Worker's Market and the Sacred Art Museum. You will find a passenger gondola lift (Funchal Passenger Ropeway), that transports people from the lower section of the city to the suburb of Monte. Aside from the city of Funchal, there are more tourist destinations such as Santana, beaches of Porto Santo Island, Porto Moniz, Ribiera Brava, Curral das Freiras, and the UNESCO Natural site, the Laurisilva forest.

  • Lisbon

Lisbon is the capital as well as the largest city in Portugal. It is one of the oldest cities in the world. Lisbon has two sites listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Sites: Belem Tower and Jeronimos Monastery. The city stretches along the banks of the Tejo river. This is primarily an embark/debark port of call for SeaDream.

  • Lisbon - Snapshots of Lisbon

    Description

This unique overview of this UNESCO Awarded city is created for disembarking guests. This introduction provides a look at the highlights of Portugal’s charming capital. As you head to the oldest part of the city, your licensed guide will point out some of the major sights that can be enjoyed from the motor coach: The Alfama Quarter: The layout of this ancient quarter will intrigue you with its ambiance, maze of alleyways and narrow, cobbled streets lined by closely packed houses, many of Moorish design. Continue with your drive through the city center to Alto do Parque Belvedere for a photo stop and to enjoy the magnificent view over the city. 25 April Bridge and Christ the King Statue: From the viewpoint depart across the beautiful 25th April Bridge, twin of San Francisco’s Golden Gate, and constructed by the same company. Originally named the Ponte Salazar after the Portuguese dictator Antonio Salazar, it was renamed in 1974 in honor of the date of the Carnation revolution. Once across the span, you will pause for photos at the base of the Monument Chris the King, a 361-foot high statue portraying the sacred heart. It was inspired by the Christ the Redeemer statue overlooking Rio de Janeiro. Jeronimos Monastery: Crossing the bridge once again proceed to this 16th-century architectural masterpiece designed in Gothic Manueline style. The riches brought back by Portuguese explorers paid for this splendid religious monument. (Exterior view of the monastery’s church.) Belém Tower: Next, proceed to Lisbon’s prominent landmark dominating the bank of the Tagus River. From this lavishly decorated tower, Portuguese explorers were given a rousing send-off. (Photo stop) Monument to the Discoveries: Close by stands this monumental sculpture, built to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of Prince Henry, the mastermind navigator behind Portugal's voyages of exploration and subsequent fantastic wealth. (Photo stop) Leaving the Belém area, you will be taken back to the pier or to the Airport.

  • Funchal, Madeira - Madeira Musts

    Description

This tour takes you west from Funchal and through the hotel and residential area of town. Winding along the coast, the road passes by the village of Câmara de Lobos “The Sea wolves' Lair”, a picturesque fishing village, once painted by Sir Winston Churchill. A stop will be made to allow you to explore some of the surrounding area and try a famous local drink called “Poncha”, made from Rum and honey at a local bar with a live demostration. The road then heads up the mountains and passes by the vineyards of Estreito de Câmara Lobos, one of the most important winegrowing areas of the island. The steep valleys offer good examples of the terraced cultivation seen throughout Madeira. To reach Cabo Girão, we drive through pine woods and eucalyptus forest, easily identifiable by their scent. Cabo Girão is the second highest sea cliff in the world, and the highest in Europe. It rises sheer from the sea, so that the viewpoint offers breathtaking views along the coast, over Funchal, and out over the distant horizon. Continue along the winding road which offers spectacular views en route to Eira do Serrado. Here a short ascent on an easy path leads to the summit of Pico do Serrado (about 3,000 feet). There are superb views of Madeira's highest peaks and the Curral das Freiras village below, a hamlet so remote that the Santa Clara Convent Nuns used it as an escape from the pirate raids of the 16th century. Here you will get the opportunity to try another local drink called “ginja”, a liqueur with a slice of Madeira Honey cake. On return to Funchal, the tour stops at The Blandy Wine Lodge, so that you have the opportunity to taste Madeira Wine, world famous for centuries.
