Discover Chioggia by Foot
Discover Chioggia by Foot
The charming town of Chioggia, often also called "The little brother of Venice", is perfect to explore by foot. Three long canals divide the island which are also cut by parallel narrow alleyways and joined by bridges. Chioggia is one of the oldest centers of the lagoon, dedicated since ancient times to the fishing and salt industries.
Departing the pier on foot, you will start your guided tour of the Chioggia historical center. Visiting Chioggia in the morning includes a stop at the fish market. Explore the market stalls to see typical fish of the Adriatic and learn about the regional recipes that can be tasted later in the small “trattoria” of the town.
You will also admire the Church of S. Domenico, displaying some of the most beautiful architecture in Chioggia. It stands on a separate island joined by a bridge. Inside you will find a touching Crucifix of the 14th century and a painting by Vittore Carpaccio, one of the most famous painters of the 15thc. Your tour will also include Campo Marconi with the ancient “Porta Garibaldi” (the old access to the city), Riva Vena, Corso del Popolo, which is the main street and the heart of the city. In between the beautiful sights, you will take a break in a local Trattoria and enjoy some local refreshments and snacks before returning to the yacht.
