Santander & Spain's Most Charming Village
Santander & Spain's Most Charming Village
The first part of your SeaDream Land Adventure will take you to Santillana del Mar, situated 25 miles from Santander. Strangely enough, it is not "del Mar" but several miles inland. It must be one of the most interesting villages in Spain from an architectural and historical point of view. It's one of the most beautifully preserved and very easy to walk and admire. The fortified house of Borja, the House of the Aguila y la Parra, the Merino Tower and the Collegiate-church with its cloister, all this make Santillana one of the most charming villages in the whole country. If you know of a more charming one, we would love to hear about it! Once the walking adventure has finished, you will have some drinks and snacks at the village's Parador (state historic hotel). Returning to Santander, you will enjoy a panoramic overview of this beautiful town, passing the Gothic Cathedral, Magdalena Palace, Beach of El Sardinero and the magnificent building of the Centre Botin. The city owes its existence to the excellent harbor of the Bay of Santander. Santander was an important port for Castile in the later Middle Ages, and also for trade with the New World. It officially became a city in 1755.
