Chateau, Vineyard and Wines of Provence
Chateau, Vineyard and Wines of Provence
Provence, renowned as the world's largest wine region, specializes in dry rosé and has become a favorite among American wine enthusiasts. On this exclusive Wine Yachting Land Adventure, visit Chateau d’Esclans, the home of the acclaimed "Whispering Angel" rosé. Explore the chateau, its picturesque vineyards, and taste wines from this world's leading rosé producer.
Embark on a journey from Cannes to the picturesque hills of Provence, where nestled among the serene landscape lies Chateau d'Esclans, a storied estate with roots tracing back to the 12th century. Once a grand castle, today only its ancient cellars remain, steeped in centuries of history and intrigue.
In 1201, the castle and vast lands of the Esclans Valley fell into the hands of Gérard de Villeneuve, scion of a prominent Marseille family. Over time, the estate was divided and sold in parcels, until its rebirth in 2006 under the ownership of Sacha Lichine. Together with Patrick Leon, the visionary former Managing Director of Mouton Rothschild, Lichine embarked on a mission to redefine the art of winemaking and craft the epitome of rosé excellence.
At the heart of Chateau d'Esclans' acclaim lies its prized old-vine Grenache, some dating back to the early 20th century. These grapes, meticulously hand-picked at dawn, intertwine with carefully tended Vermentino to create wines of unparalleled complexity and finesse. The estate's top cuvées, aged in oak, possess an extraordinary ability to evolve and improve with time, offering a sensory journey through the terroir of Provence.
With an annual production of 7 million bottles, a staggering 95% of which are exported, Chateau d'Esclans has carved its place on the global stage. Leading the charge is the iconic Whispering Angel, beloved for its dry palate, aromatic intensity, and versatility with a wide array of dishes. Sacha Lichine's ambition to elevate rosé to new heights has sparked a "renaissance of rosé," revolutionizing winemaking in the region with innovative techniques and uncompromising quality.
Discover the allure of Chateau d'Esclans, where tradition meets innovation, and every sip tells a tale of passion, craftsmanship, and the timeless beauty of Provence.
