Nazareth & Galilee
Nazareth & Galilee
Journey on a comprehensive Yachting Land Adventure to Galilee, the scene of Christ's youth. Take in the serenity of the place where Jesus was baptized, walk where He performed miracles, and listen for the echo in the places He preached. Enrichen your culinary skill with a tahina workshop, and savor Israeli cuisine for lunch in a local home.
See the splendid views of the Sea of Galilee from the terrace of the dome Catholic Church on Mount of Beatitudes, where Christ delivered the Sermon on the Mount. In 2000, Pope John-Paul II celebrated the Eucharist on its slope.
Travel to Tabgha and the Church of the Multiplication. Believed to occupy the site where Christ performed His miracle with two fish and five loaves. Consecrated in 1981, the current shrine protects a beautiful 5th century Byzantine mosaic floor depicting the miracle. On the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee lies Capernaum, the centre of Jesus’ ministry in the Galilee. It was here that He performed many of His miracles, preached in the now-ruined synagogue, and met five of His disciples, including St. Peter whose house is believed to have been identified among the ruins.
Drive to Yardenit on the River Jordan where John baptized Christ.
Drive to Kibbutz Gesher for lunch in a member’s house. On the menu are dishes made from the produce of the garden and some of the favourite Israeli foods. Try your hand at making tahina – Israel's favorite condiment. Made from sesame seeds, tahina can be served by itself or added as a major ingredient to hummus, baba ghanoush, and halva. In this condensed workshop, prepare and learn the difference between traditional, green and pink tahina.
Next travel to Nazareth and visit the largest Christian Church in the Middle East, the Basilica of the Annunciation. Consecrated in 1969 on the sites of Byzantine and Crusader churches, the church is said to mark the grotto where the Archangel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary. Stroll through the local petite market where vendors offer souvenirs, religious artifacts and an incredible variety of locally made spices. Savor one of the specialties – the sticky-sweet and heavenly baklava before driving back to the yacht at Haifa Port.
