Highlights of Thessaloniki and Wine Tasting

Learn all about the city that was named after the half-sister of Alexander the Great. Discover Thessaloniki on a panoramic drive of the city and taste some of the fine wines of this area direct from the winery.

Thessaloniki, the “Nymph of the Thermaic Gulf” is amphitheatrically situated on the slopes of Mount Chortiatis. It was founded by the Greek Macedonian King Kassander, who named the city Thessaloniki after his wife who was also the half-sister of Alexander the Great. During the Roman period, Thessaloniki was the capital of Macedonia and during the Middle Ages, it was the second city of the Byzantine Empire. For 400 years it was occupied by the Ottoman Empire, until it was finally freed in 1912.

This excursion begins with a guided panoramic drive in a comfortable air-conditioned coach viewing the White Tower, and other historical landmarks. You will see the most important monuments of the city such as the Rottonda, the Arch of Galerus, and the OTE Tower of the international exhibition of Thessaloniki.

Next the tour continues with a drive of approximately 45 minutes to arrive at the peninsula of Chalkidiki where the Gerovassiliou Winery is located. Ktima Gerovassiliou is the brainchild of Vangelis Gerovassiliou. In 1981, he started reviving the family vineyard extending over 2.5 hectares in the Papamola region of Epanomi. In this unique ecosystem he planted mainly Greek, but also foreign grape varieties. You will have the opportunity to visit different areas of the winery and taste some of their best wines. After the visit re-board your coach for your return way to the pier.

Notes: If Gerovassiliou Winery is not available during your call, an alternative winery will be substituted and the duration may be slightly longer to reach a winery of similar caliber. A minimum participation is required to operate all Yachting Land Adventures, and some may have limited capacity. All adventures in the SeaDream Yachting Land Adventures program are subject to change.
