Sarande History & Castle Views

Sarande History & Castle Views

Promenade along the stunning waterfront with your expert guide in ancient history, learning about Sarande’s important Roman history along with a visit of a 4th century synagogue. The excursion ends with a cool refreshment and magnificent view overlooking the port at the Lekursi Castle.

Meet your expert guide pier side, where you will start the walking tour at the entrance to the promenade. A brief history of Sarande is provided before you find yourself being taken mentally back in time by your guide - to the Roman times, when Sarande was first mentioned by Cicero. There is a legend you will learn that links this city to the temple of Machismos, the father of Enneas from Troyan fame.

After a short walk you will arrive at the ruins of what has been determined to be a 4th century synagogue. From the surviving ruins your guide will decipher the clues that this was a large Jewish merchant’s home that included a synagogue.

Continue along the beautiful boulevard at the old port hearing many stories including the time when Nikita Khrushchev, from the Soviet Union, landed during his visit to Albania. Afterwards, you will be transported to the top of the mountain where the Lekurski Castle is perched over the harbor. Take in the spectacular views over the port with your Seadream yacht and the Corfu straights seen in the distance. Enjoy a cool drink at the castle, plus some time on your own before returning to the yacht back in the port.
