The Provencal Village of La Garde Freinet
The Provencal Village of La Garde Freinet
Travel into the Provence countryside and discover the medieval French mountain village of La Garde-Freinet including some free time and a tasting of the local specialties.
The French Rivera and its surrounds have no shortage of quaint little Provencal villages, and La Garde-Freinet is one such charming place. Travel by minibus for approximately 45 minutes along winding, picturesque roads, through forests of cork, oaks, and chestnuts, taking you to La Garde-Freinet. This forest and popular village is located in the heart of the Massif des Maures.
Upon arrival you will instantly discover why the medieval town draws visitors from far and wide. On a guided walking tour, you will visit the village that was the site of Fraxinet, a Moorish settlement of the ninth to tenth centuries. Established in the 11th century, the village has preserved its character with its field stone houses, old fashioned street names, and a village square framed with restaurants and local art galleries. From atop old Fort Freinet one can see the plains of Saint-Clément and the Argens valley, all the way to the Alps. After the walking tour you will enjoy some of the local village specialties in a tasting followed by approximately 60 minutes of free time.
Then it’s time to reboard the minibus and follow the roads that wonderfully follow the natural landscape, past forests with various species of trees and typically Mediterranean cultivated grounds until arriving pierside to rejoin your SeaDream yacht.
