Magnificent Carcassonne – A Medieval City

Magnificent Carcassonne – A Medieval City

Set high on a hill – visit Carcassonne’s ancient walled city, famous all over the world and unique in Europe.

Depart Sete and travel by air-conditioned coach for approximately 90 minutes to reach Carcassonne—a fortified town that is famous all over the world and is unique in Europe. People still live in this medieval city with its 52 towers and two concentric walls. Upon arrival you will have an hour guided tour seeing the Narbonne Gate, which is the most important architectural feature of this period, and the List, an area between the two city walls. Enjoying a stroll along the Lists is like reliving 20 centuries of history.

Next, proceed to the Basilica of Saint-Nazaire—the jewel of the old city. All that remains today of this Romanesque cathedral, begun in 1096, is the barrel-vaulted nave. See the Count’s Castle built in the 12th century by the Viscounts of Carcassonne. You will have approximately 4 hours of free time on you own to browse the local shops, peek into the medieval passageways and streets. There are many options to enjoy lunch (not included) during this time before rejoining your coach and guide for the drive back to Sete and your SeaDream yacht.
