Charming Sintra & Dramatic Cape Roca, Mainland Europe`s Westernmost Point
An afternoon of contrasts awaits you; explore a famous palace, stroll through charming Sintra (a must-see while in Portugal) and enjoy stunning vistas of the Atlantic Ocean.
We leave the beach resort of Cascais and pass the village of Estoril on our way to Sintra, the popular resort, long favored by Portuguese royalty and English nobility nestling in tree-clad hills.
During our guided walk of the Royal Palace, with its twin kitchen chimneys, we explore its Moorish origin and synthesis into Gothic and other architectural styles. It is one of the oldest buildings in Portugal and thus has been largely reconstructed over the centuries.
Following our walk through the palace, there will be free time to explore Sintra, allowing is time to wander at leisure or visit some of the shops.
Our journey then continues to the most westerly point of Europe"s mainland, Cape Roca, where we can take in a breathtaking panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean, from high above a 450-foot high cliff.
Our scenic return to Cascais includes a drive past the beautiful "Guincho Beach" before arriving back at the yacht.
Notes: The visit of the palace includes a large number of steps and you can expect to spend just over two hours of walking during this adventure.
