Ports

  • Civitavecchia (Rome)

Civitavecchia is a major port located in Rome, primarily utilized for maritime transportation of goods, as well as a fishing port. The commune’s name means “ancient town” and is one of the “Motorways of the Sea” in the Mediterranean, functioning as one of the main links between the mainland of Italy and Sardinia. The ancient name of the port was “Centumcellae,” first mentioned in a letter written by Pliny the Younger in 107 A.D., although scholars debate on whether the name was about the number of rooms of the Trajan Villa, or the number of natural creeks on the coast. Civitavecchia is a part of the Lazio Territory, an area which was confirmed to have social groups since pre-historic times, and the modern town was built over a pre-existing settlement of the Etruscan people in 107-108 B.C.E. (who debated to have founded Rome). In the beginning of the 2nd century, the harbor and town of Centumcellae were simultaneously developed by Emperor Trajan in the territory of Aquae Tauri. As the town became more popular for ships traveling westbound, the Thermal Baths were constructed on the hill of Ficoncella. Centumcellae flourished in the Imperial Age, and by 538 A.D., it had become a Byzantine stronghold. In 728 A.D., it became a member of the Papal States. The Saracens raided Centumcellae many times in the 9th century, prompting Pope Leo VII to have a newer and more secure settlement built by 854. The town, then known as Civita Vetula, was under the rule of several lords, and the Popes temporarily lost control during the French Rule in 1798-1815. In 1870 it entered the Kingdom of Italy. Civitavecchia was severely damaged during WWII, destroying many of the ancient monuments including Forte Michelangelo, which would be rebuilt in the 1950’s. Popular points of interest include the Forte Michelangelo, Terme Taurine, and Cattedrale di San Francesco. There is a wealth of Roman and Vatican architecture and tourists are encouraged to visit many of the museums and take the cultural tours available in this important sea port.

  • Capri

Capri may very well be the most popular island on the planet. It is a beautiful Italian island in the Tyrrhenian Sea just off the Sorrentine Peninsula, on the south side of the Bay of Naples. Capri town is the island’s main population center. The island has two harbors, Marina Piccola and Marina Grande (the main port of the island). The separate village of Anacapri is located high on the hills to the west. From there, visitors can continue up to the highest point Mt. Solero. Besides some simply amazing shopping boutiques, the island has so much to offer including the famous Grotta Azzurra, Villa Jovis, Giardini di Augusto, Certosa di San Giacomo, Villa San Michele di Axel Munthe and the uniquely shaped Faraglioni rocks. SeaDream has put together most of the sights into one adventure called “Discovering the Island of Love” Kindly check the Land Adventures tab for more information. There’s also some great hikes available on the island, check with the activities team on board for details.

  • Amalfi

Amalfi is a picturesque town in the province of Salerno, in the Campania region of Italy. With its incredible views, it is the central town that makes up the very famous and UNESCO awarded Amalfi Coast (Costiera Amalfitana). Amalfi sports some impressive medieval architecture including; its cathedral of Sant'Andrea (St. Andrew), the church tower, the convent of the Cappuccini, founded by the Amalfitan Cardinal Pietro Capuano. They richly represent the artistic movement prevailing in Southern Italy. From Amalfi, we have created two exciting land adventures for you. One to Scenic Ravello and the other to Fascinating Pompeii. You may also choose to play from the yacht’s marina (Permission and conditions pending) or go on a very scenic hike with one of the officers.

  • Taormina (Etna) Sicily

SeaDream yachts anchor in the bay of Giardini Naxos and offer fantastic views of recently awarded UNESCO Natural Site of Mt. Etna (2013) as well as Taormina perched on the cliffside. Shuttle bus service has been arranged to transport guests from Giardini Naxos to the entrance gate of Taormina town. For the SeaDream active guests, office led hikes and bike rides could also transport you to Taormina town or continue up to Castelmola which provides amazing views of the surrounding areas. Perhaps the “must do” adventure here would be to ascend Mt. Etna with your fellow SeaDreamers. Kindly check the Land Adventure tab for the specifics. Other options include an incredible and authentic feast at the Godfather Villa. This “SeaDream Exclusive” Land Adventure requires a high minimum to operate, but it’s worth every penny! As we are anchored and if conditions allow, we will offer water sports both in the morning and in the afternoon. Multo Bene!

  • Otranto

The easternmost town on the Italian mainland, Otranto enchants with its medieval architecture and relaxed beachfront atmosphere. As you approach the modest façade of the town’s 11th-century cathedral, admire the delicately carved rose window, a preview of the wonders found within, which include an extraordinary mosaic floor known as the Tree of Life. The imposing Castello Aragonese invites exploration both along the ramparts and in the dry moat, a perfect vantage point from which to admire the fort’s massive cylindrical towers. Sun-lovers flock to the town’s beaches, which wrap around a protected cove lapped by gentle waves. While roaming the Old Town’s warren of narrow streets and cozy squares, you’ll discover enticing shops and eateries housed in age-old stone buildings. Later in the day, both residents and visitors congregate on the seaside promenade for their passeggiata, a typical Italian stroll that affords marvelous views of the sparkling sea. Stop at one of Otranto’s many excellent restaurants for a taste of orecchiette, which amusingly means small ear in Italian and is a popular regional pasta often served with savory ricotta.

  • Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik (Pearl of the Adriatic) is one of the most prominent destinations in the Adriatic Sea. It lies in the region of Dalmatia and was awarded World Unesco Heritage status in 1979. The population is approximately 43,000 and is considered to be among the 10 best medieval walled cities in the world. SeaDream anchors off the walled city as a port of call and tenders directly to the town gate. If you check the land adventures here, you will find that there are many different excursions to consider in this incredible town. Dubrovnik is also an embarkation point on select voyages. On these occasions, the yacht is docked at the cruise terminal.

  • Korcula

Korčula may be the actual birthplace of Marco Polo! This is an island in the Adriatic Sea, in Southern Dalmatia and is considered by our guests as one of their favorites. One activity offered sells out every time so book early the Buggy Safari. As SeaDream typically anchors off Korcula expects the water toys to be used from the marina platform. As the island is relatively flat, this is a great biking destination as well.

  • Hvar

Hvar is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea. The island of Hvar is somewhat unusual as it is blessed with a large fertile coastal plain and fresh water springs. Its hillsides are covered in pine forests, with vineyards, olive groves, fruit orchards and lavender fields in the agricultural areas. The climate is characterized by mild winters and warm summers with many hours of sunshine. Guests have an option to kayak down the coastline on one of our land adventures or take an independent hike up to the fortress to have some incredible views of the picturesque harbor. You also have an option to bike across the island to Starigrad and meet up with the other guests on the land adventure called “The best of Both Worlds".

  • Komiza, Vis Island

This island holds a host of accolades from being the oldest town in Croatia and hosting the oldest regatta in Europe, to featuring some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. With a picturesque coastline, it is easy to see why Vis was selected as the backdrop for the 2018 feature film “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.” The farthest inhabited island off the Croatian mainland, Vis has an interesting cultural heritage after being secluded from foreign visitors up until the late 1980s. This history of isolation has been key in keeping the island pure, making Vis an ideal destination for those seeking authenticity.

  • Sibenik

The town of Sibenik is situated in one of the most well-protected natural harbors on the Croatian coast. Your SeaDream yacht navigates into the harbor past numerous islands in the archipelago and through a channel that is, in parts, less than 500 feet wide. While Sibenik is less well known than Dubrovnik and Split, it has its own personality and some great things to see and enjoy. Sibenik's St. James Cathedral is one of the marvels of the Dalmatian Coast and is Unesco World Heritage listed as of November 2000. In the old town, little streets lead to attractive squares where modern shops blend into the fine and stylish architecture of vanished centuries. Nearby is the Krka National Park with its river and numerous waterfalls and cascades. SeaDream Land Adventures offer you an orientation of the city as well as venturing to the Krka National Park & Waterfalls as well as the neighboring town of Zadar and Liquor Tasting.

  • Rovinj

Rovinj is a popular tourist resort in Croatia situated on the north Adriatic Sea. It is situated on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula and remains as one of the last true fishing ports. SeaDream is scheduled to anchor to offer water sports activities from the marina (Permission and conditions pending).

  • Venice

Venice has been known as the "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water", "City of Masks", "City of Bridges", "The Floating City", and "City of Canals". Luigi Barzini, writing in The New York Times, described it as "undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man". Venice has also been described by the Times Online as being one of Europe's most romantic cities. Founded in the 5th century, the city stretches across 118 small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic. In 1987 Venice and its Lagoon was inscribed as a UNESCO Heritage site. SeaDream typically docks at the San Basilio pier after navigating by the famous St. Mark’s Square down the grand canal. With its yacht stature, SeaDream vessels are amongst the very few commercial vessels that can navigate this famous waterway. SeaDream does offer Land Adventures when overnighting. • Rovinj - Istria Truffle Story

    Description

An exclusive SeaDream experience awaits a small group of our guests today. Your land adventure will start off by going first to the medieval town of Motovun. This captivating hilltop town is one of the characteristic symbols of the Istrian interior. The Romanesque-Gothic bell tower with a crenulated crown from the 13th century, standing next to the Parish Church of St. Stephen from the 17th century, dominates the town's historic core. In the central square is the Romanesque Municipal Palace, the largest secular building in Istria of that period surrounded by many other historic buildings. You will enjoy a walk of the town including a refreshment and some free time for exploring this beautiful town before continuing your trip.

Few areas of the world offer an authentic search for the "culinary gold" known as truffles, and most truffle farmers are extremely cautious of "trespassers" to protect their valuable crop. The best period to search for the coveted white truffles is between October to December. During January to September, black truffles can also be found, which are slightly lower quality than white truffles. You and your fellow lucky SeaDreamers will travel toward the Istria Peninsula Hinterland to the village of Paladini where you will meet with the Karlic Family (A grandfather, mother, grandchildren and dogs) at their Farm. The truffle business of the Karlić family from Paladini near Buzet was established last century by Mr Ivan Rašpolić, in 1966. Back then Motovun forest was quite bigger than today. Both white and black truffles found in that area were considered to be among the best quality truffles in Istria. However, one of the richest truffle fields now lies at the bottom of the Butoniga lake. At the Farm, your host – the Karlic Family - will introduce you to the truffles and their history in Istra, along with their family. You will taste delicious products made of truffles all prepared by the family, including Istrian cheese with truffles, sausages with truffles, truffle pate, honey with truffles, olive oil with truffles. The highlight of the tasting is a live interactive presentation of making a famous Istrian “fritaja” scrambled eggs with truffles, and you have the opportunity to join in cooking the fritaja. After tasting, your hosts will take you on a truffle hunt in their own woods where they grow and harvest their black truffles. The truffles grow underground and are therefore invisible. However, their strong smell and uniquely trained dogs recognize the smell very well. After your truffle experience, head back to Rovinj and your SeaDream yacht. A lovely experience and a day that will be remembered!

    Notes

While every effort is made by the guides to locate truffles (they are invisible!), SeaDream cannot guarantee that they will be found. In an effort to make this Yachting Land Adventure a genuine truffle hunt, we have advised the guides not to 'plant' truffles in the hope that you will enjoy the authenticity of the experience and thrill of the hunt. Please wear flat comfortable walking shoes and remember that you will be walking through forest and other natural surroundings where the path can be muddy. Should it be a hot & sunny day during your visit, please bring protection from the sun and extra water, which is available, complimentary, at the gangway. A minimum participation is required to operate all Yachting Land Adventures and some have limited capacity. Final departures times will be published onboard and the itinerary sequence may vary.

Biševo Island leaves everyone breathless. The combination of natural phenomena, sandy bays & friendly islanders will remain in your memory forever. At this island there is rare natural phenomenon happening at the Blue Cave.

  • Otranto - Italy's Eastern Door - Otranto

    Description

Experience a fascinating guided private walking tour at the Easternmost point of Italy's "boot". While exploring Otranto you visit the inside of the mysterious Skull Cathedral and see the Martyrs of Otranto.

Otranto was one of ancient Rome’s leading ports for its trade with Asia Minor and Greece. Under the Byzantines it was an important toehold of the Eastern Empire in Italy. In 1070 it fell under the Normans. Turks attacked and destroyed the city in 1480. During the siege more than 800 inhabitants fled to the cathedral where they were slaughtered and decapitated after refusing to reject their faith and convert to Islam.

The Cathedral which rises at the top of the small town, was built to be one of the most outstanding churches in Apulia. Its crypt was erected in 1088, and the Church was completed maybe a century later. Those were years of full splendor for the small town. Inside the Cathedral you will admire the magnificent mosaic floor, which is one of the largest in Europe and created by Priest Pantaleone between 1163 and 1165. When the attacking Ottomans mercilessly sacked all of Otranto and knocked down the walls of the cathedral, they left this floor intact. See the inside the Chapel of “Beati Martiri” and the crypt; housing the mortal remains of the 800 “martyrs” murdered in 1480. These martyrs were beatified in 1771 and then canonized by Pope Francis in May 2013.

Continue on walking, as your guide shares stories about the rich history of the Aragonese Castle. This imposing fortress of Otranto has a pentagonal plan, surrounded by a large moat, and punctuated by four towers, three circular and one with the tip directed toward the sea. On the fifth side, opens the drawbridge. This fortress also inspired the first gothic novel of history, the Castle of Otranto, written by Horace Walpole in 1764. Strolling past the bastions of the castle you make your way up to the Byzantine church of San Pietro. Dating back to the IX-XI centuries, you will be awestruck at the beauty within and learn the history plus view the brilliantly colored frescos within its humble walls before returning to the yacht.
