Funchal is considered the sixth largest city in Portugal, and for five centuries, it has also been the capital of Portugal’s Autonomous Region of Madeira. Funchal has a rich history, which quickly became a populated settlement due to its productive soils, and its surrounding valley having a natural amphitheater shape that provided shelter for early settlers. SeaDream guests may visit top tourist locations such as Blandy's Wine Lodge, the open Worker's Market and the Sacred Art Museum. You will find a passenger gondola lift (Funchal Passenger Ropeway), that transports people from the lower section of the city to the suburb of Monte. Aside from the city of Funchal, there are more tourist destinations such as Santana, beaches of Porto Santo Island, Porto Moniz, Ribiera Brava, Curral das Freiras, and the UNESCO Natural site, the Laurisilva forest.
Philipsburg is the main town on the Dutch side of St. Maarten. The town is situated on a narrow stretch of land between Great Bay and the Great Salt Pond. Philipsburg was founded in 1763 by John Philips, a Scottish captain in the Dutch navy. The settlement soon became a center for international trade. The main shopping district is located on Front Street and is in the heart of the city. Many consider Philipsburg to be the best shopping opportunity in the Caribbean. Depending on the traffic, SeaDream has the option to anchor or dock alongside. One of the highlight activities may be to participate in the America’s Cup 12 Metre Regatta.

Funchal, Madeira - Laurissilva by 4x4: A UNESCO World Heritage Journey
Description
Leave the city behind and journey inland toward the dramatic valley of Serra de Água, where steep green slopes frame the winding mountain roads. Ascend to the Encumeada Pass, rising approximately 1,000 meters above sea level, for a dedicated photo stop overlooking the valley of Ribeira Brava. From this elevated viewpoint, take in sweeping views across the surrounding mountains before continuing your journey into the island’s interior.
Begin your descent into the Laurissilva Forest, one of the largest surviving areas of UNESCO-listed laurel forest in the world. Upon reaching the remote northern side of the island, board open-roof 4x4 vehicles and follow unpaved forest tracks beneath a dense canopy of ancient laurel trees. Travel along narrow routes that pass through native vegetation unique to Madeira, offering close views of this protected natural reserve.
Continue toward the northern vineyards of Quinta do Barbusano, set against the rugged Atlantic-facing slopes. Here, sample a selection of local table wines accompanied by regional tapas. The visit highlights Madeira’s contemporary winemaking traditions before the scenic return drive to Funchal.Notes
This adventure is suitable for physically fit guests and includes travel over paved, cobbled, hilly, and uneven terrain, with several steps at viewpoints and the winery. It is not wheelchair accessible and not recommended for guests with limited mobility, pregnant women, or those with back problems. Visibility from scenic outlooks is weather dependent.
