  • Monemvasia - Monemvasia Stroll & Traditional House Visit

    Description

Monemvasia, often referred as the “ Gibraltar of Greece”, is undoubtedly unique with its fortified medieval town built on a reddish-brown rock and surrounded by the blue sea.

Board the shuttle bus with your guide from the tender point, to start this exploration by entering the one and only gate of the city (Monemvasia means Moni=sole, Emvasia = entrance). The ancient stone built mansions, the picturesque lanes and the numerous Byzantine churches create an environment of superb beauty.

Monemvasia is split in two, the lower town and the upper town. Walking down the main alley, admire the wonderful architecture of the houses on your left and right, when you eventually end up at the square of Elkomenos. This square is dominated by the church of Elkomenos on the left, a mosque converted into a museum on the right and a Turkish cannon in the center.

During the stroll in the upper town; admire the octagonal church of Agia Sofia, built by the Emperor Andronicus in the 12th century AD. This is one of the most beautiful places of worship in Greece, offering unique views of the walled city and the sea.

The Laconian countryside is waiting to reveal its secrets to unsuspecting visitors and well-informed nature lovers alike on this guided journey around Talanta Village.

From the pier you will board a private vehicle for the 30-minute drive to Talanta Village. Start the adventure by trekking down the cobbled path with the watermills. Among the ruins of 12 watermills, on water's way to the sea, you will stop at the restored third watermill. This watermill is the starting point for the walk in nature, seeing images that take you back to the beginning of the last century.

  • Nafplion - Scenic Cycling in Nafplion

    Description

Cycle through the ancient and modern picturesque neighborhoods of Nauplion, while taking in the scenic surroundings on your mountain bike.
Start your cycling excursion from the lighthouse of the picturesque harbor of Nafplio. Follow your guide on the paved path and under the walls of Acronafplia, the long narrow rocky peninsula which enters into the Gulf of Argolis. Here you will admire the five canons from the Venetian period of the Nauplion occupation. Continuing on, pass by Panagitsa Church which served as a secret school during the Ottoman occupation. A few moments from there you will arrive at Arvanitia Beach, where you transfer to a dirt road for 2.5km until reaching Karathona Beach. On the left side you will be able to enjoy views of Palamidi Castle and on your right side take in the views of the sea with the high mountains of the Peloponnese, namely Artemision and Parnonas in the background.

Upon arrival at Karathona Beach, you will cycle another 2.5 km across the beach and under the shadows of the eucalyptus trees. When you arrive at the picturesque church with wooden benches and a shaded roof, you’ll find this is a perfect place to pause for a short refreshment while enjoying the sea views.

  • Sifnos Island - Dazzling White Villages of Sifnos

    Description

Unravel the historic chronicles of Sifnos while visiting its main villages, walking along cobblestone paths and traveling to its quaint villages. Also stop at the famous Chrysopigi Monastery to enjoy its subtle beauty.

Your coach departs the pier and travels toward the celebrated monastery of Panayia Chrysopigi, and patron saint of the island. Built in 1650 over the foundations of an older church and dramatically placed between the rocks, on the edge of a small cape, it’s joined with the rest of Sifnos by a bridge.

After a short visit, the tour continues to Apollonia. Driving past ancient, terraced mountains, admire the panoramic views of the sea surrounding the land, sprinkled with brilliant white chapels and their colorful domes. Meanwhile the guide will be unravelling both the ancient and modern history of Sifnos, a history than goes back 4000 years. At Apollonia, the present capital of the island, enjoy a guided walking tour down its stone paved pedestrian alleys, through the architecturally preserved town, past terraces planted with olive trees, strange chimney pots decorated with birds, traditional shops and flowered courtyards.

Kastro Village is the next stop and is located at the top of a rock with steep sided cliffs and a panoramic view overlooking the sea and to the neighboring islands. Kastro played an important role in the history of Sifnos. Inhabited since prehistoric times, Kastro has kept all the characteristics of a fortified village and was rebuilt in 1630 during Venetian colonization. Walk through narrow alleyways, seeing timeworn houses with wooden balconies and coats of arms carved above the doors, small lanterns, chapels, and relics from times gone, all contributing to the special atmosphere of this small village.

The last village seen is the traditional village of Artemonas, seemingly unscathed by modern life. Admire the neoclassic mansions built 200 years ago and the village’s whitewashed houses with their fluid architecture, a memorable experience for most visitors. From Artemonas, the coach returns to Kamares, where a small snack with a glass of ouzo, or wine, or refreshment will be served at a seafront tavern. Afterwards, you may choose to walk back to the tender dock or remain lingering with the locals to return independently on your own.
