Chateau Royal and Collioure on Foot
Chateau Royal and Collioure on Foot
Located in the south of France, just 26 km from the Spanish border, Collioure is a true jewel of the rocky coast, offering an authentic atmosphere and a beautifully preserved environment. Discover this picturesque village, whose light and charm inspired renowned painters such as Matisse, Picasso, and Marquet, and enjoy a visit to the impressive Royal Castle.
Collioure invites you to embrace its gentle climate and vibrant ambiance. It’s easy to soak in the atmosphere as you watch local artists painting along the small fishing harbor, framed by cafés and lively terraces. The village blends harmoniously into its surroundings: the iconic church tower, the royal château, the beach, and the mountains all share warm, sun‑kissed tones, complemented by the small white Mediterranean houses.
Your walking tour will lead you from the waterfront to the church, home to a golden sculpted wooden altarpiece dating from the 18th century, and then to the King of Majorca’s Castle, expanded by Pierre IV of Aragon in the 14th century (closed on Tuesdays).
After the visit, enjoy a stop at a local venue for tapas, followed by some free time to explore at your leisure. You will then rejoin your guide for the return to the yacht.
Notes: Be advised that this walking tour includes uneven surfaces, uphill sections, and cobblestone streets, making comfortable walking shoes essential. The castle in Collioure is not available for visits on May 1st or during the Antiques Fair, which typically takes place at the end of October.
