Medieval Valbonne & Opio Olive Mill

Medieval Valbonne & Opio Olive Mill

Discover one of the last remaining ancient olive mills and captivating village life of medieval Valbonne in Provence!
From the port, you will head into the scenic countryside, past the Sophia Antipolis Business District a French “Silicon Valley”, as well as the charming Provencal towns of Grasse, Mougins on the way to Valbonne. This medieval village was created in the 16th century in the middle of an oak tree forest. Built like a well-protected square, Valbonne offers tiny pedestrian streets with shadowed squares covered porticoes and peaceful fountains. It is a wonderful Provencal town to stroll through its boutiques, galleries and alluring shops and without the usual tourism crowds. Enjoy some time at leisure before reboarding the coach to Opio.

In Opio you will find one of the last original Olive mills, where locals bring their collected olives from their private gardens to be processed into their own oil from the fresh pressed olives. The Michel family has owned this Mill for seven generations and takes great pleasure in sharing their know-how with everyone on a guided visit of the mill and olive oil process with olive tastings. After learning about the local Olive tree cultivation and the historical production of olive oil, you will taste some local black olives and some house made wine. No store-bought olive oil will ever taste the same after you have had it fresh from the olive trees in Provence. Reflect on the lifestyle and history of the olive oil industry as you return to the SeaDream yacht at the pier.
