As part of our dedication to the perfect yachting journey, we would like to introduce you to the people who make us #1 for our award-winning service on the seas. This week we are pleased to introduce you to Severin, our Maître d' on board SeaDream II. Severin joined SeaDream in 2012 as bartender and then was quickly promoted to Chief Bartender. His excellent management skills and personable nature led to his being promoted to Maître d', a role in which he has fully embraced. We are proud to call Severin a valued part of our SeaDream family.
Q: Where is your favorite place to travel in the Caribbean—and why?
A: I really enjoy the British Virgin Islands. Diving among the most beautiful locations, snorkeling Treasure Island at Norman Island. Rum punches after exploring the caves. And you can’t go wrong with the infamous "Painkiller” rum cocktail (or two!) from the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost van Dyke’s White Bay. Or perhaps enjoying a prawn quesadilla at Hendo’s Hideout after a day of relaxing on the tiny island. There are so many secluded islands in the area that it’s hard to pick just one favorite place.
Q: Where is your favorite place to travel in the Mediterranean—and why?
A: Definitely, the Amalfi Coast. The food is amazing, and there are so many small, family-run restaurants in Amalfi where the proprietors speak very little English. Great shopping in Sorrento and Positano. Rich in history to explore from Roman and Greek architecture to thousands of years of maritime influence that can still be felt today. And the region’s famed limoncello (Italian lemon liqueur) is not too bad either.
Q: What does “It’s Yachting, Not Cruising®” mean to you?
A: Providing each one of our guests with a unique personal experience which cannot be offered on “big” ships. From procuring fresh mint from local farmers in Cuba for the best mojito ever to trying to persuade the bartender at Sunshine’s Bar in Nevis for their Killer Bee recipe so we can re-create the cocktail on board—these are just a few details we do to personalize every experience for our guests. Of course, this all relates to knowing their cuisine and cocktail preferences and taking them to heart.
Q: What is it that you love most about SeaDream?
A: The family we have created on board. We have established such close connections with our fellow crew that even on our vacations at home we keep in contact with everyone around the world daily. Perhaps my biggest honor is that I was named godfather to one of my closest friend’s newborn child, a friend that I would not have met anywhere else other than on board SeaDream II.
