Guests aboard this rare SeaDream voyage will experience both Christmas and New Year's at sea. Auckland's harbour opens the journey toward Napier, rebuilt after the 1931 earthquake into the world's most complete Art Deco town, then Wellington, where the red cable car climbs to hillside gardens above a capital anchored by Te Papa's collections and renowned for its coffee and craft beer. In Picton, wander the drowned-valley maze of the Marlborough Sounds before tasting sauvignon blanc at Cloudy Bay's cellar doors. Cross to Lyttelton for Christchurch's reinvented street art and a drive out to Akaroa, where rare Hector's dolphins play in a sunken volcanic harbour. At remote Stewart Island, listen for kiwi foraging in the undergrowth and watch for the aurora australis rippling green overhead. Sail in silence through Doubtful Sound, engines cut beneath waterfalls and rainforested cliffs, before a hushed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at sea crossing the Tasman, carols and a festive table marking the holiday aboard, then Boxing Day welcomes you to Hobart's Georgian sandstone and the subterranean provocations of MONA. Wander the UNESCO-listed convict ruins of Port Arthur and cruise past the solemn Isle of the Dead, then ride the chairlift above Launceston's Cataract Gorge, before Eden, where humpbacks and southern rights throng Twofold Bay. Sydney Harbour hosts the celebration's finale, the yacht sailing past the Opera House and beneath the great steel arch of the bridge as New Year's Eve fireworks light the water, one of the most celebrated ways anywhere to welcome the new year.
