The largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area gives way, at the Straits of Mackinac, to Huron's more sheltered, island-studded waters, a transition between two very different Great Lakes personalities within a single day's sailing. Superior's cold water and open fetch can produce genuine ocean-scale swells, a fact more than one wrecked freighter has learned the hard way. I hate Commercial Cruises. So I reluctantly signed up for a SeaDream, and after a week on the boat, I could not think of one thing that was not done to perfection. The food was great, the staff was spectacular, and having only 50 couples made this a private yacht cruise.
