Peru's north coast is a pageant of vanished civilisations. Walk Chan Chan, the largest adobe city ever built and capital of the Chimu, then marvel at the polychrome friezes of the Moche Huacas of the Sun and Moon. At Huanchaco, fishermen still ride the same curved reed caballitos de totora their ancestors paddled 3,000 years ago. In Trujillo's colonial plaza, a marinera dance and fresh ceviche complete the day.

I hate Commercial Cruises. So I reluctantly signed up for a SeaDream, and after a week on the boat, I could not think of one thing that was not done to perfection. The food was great, the staff was spectacular, and having only 50 couples made this a private yacht cruise.
