Harris gave the world its own protected fabric, Harris Tweed, still handwoven in island crofts under a trademark that guarantees every meter was made right here. Luskentyre beach, a sweep of white sand against turquoise Atlantic shallows more reminiscent of the Caribbean than the Outer Hebrides, lies a short drive from the harbor, alongside a young distillery already winning awards for its single malt. Gannets and other seabirds crowd the island's cliffs in their thousands. Remote, beautiful, and increasingly hard to keep secret.
