Program Overview

Ports

  • Nice

Nice is the fifth most populous city in France and the second largest on the Mediterranean coast. The city's famous seaside promenade, the Promenade des Anglais ('the Walkway of the English') owes its name to the earliest settlers to this seaside resort. For over a quarter century, the picturesque Nicean surroundings have attracted not only those in search of relaxation but also those seeking inspiration. SeaDream docks in the small port and offers several land adventure options as well as private arrangements and transfers.

  • Sanary-sur-Mer

Sanary-sur-Mer is a Provencal village located in the Var department in the Provences-Alpes-Côtes d'Azur region of France. Most visitors fall in love with the town shortly after they arrive. The harbor has several traditional wooden boats called “pointus” that are used by the fisherman daily. They sell their catch each morning on the harbor front. Market day is always a special treat so plan accordingly. The nearby village of Bandol has some of the oldest vineyards in France. It’s an easy bike ride down the coast from Sanary-sur-Mer. Other options include a land adventure to the nearby town of Castellet a typical hilltop village where you can explore and have a nice wine tasting. Golf at De La Fregate as well as water sports are also on option here.

  • Barcelona

Barcelona, a Unesco Awarded City, is the second largest in Spain. It was the 12th-most-visited city in the world, and 4th most visited in Europe after London, Paris, and Rome. Especially remarkable is the work of architect Antoni Gaudi, which can be seen throughout the city. His best-known work is the immense but still unfinished church of the Sagrada Familia, which has been under construction since 1882 and is still financed by private donations. Completion is planned for 2026. SeaDream almost always docks downtown at the World Trade Center and is steps away from the famous boulevard of La Rambla. SeaDream has several land adventure options for you, view voyages for the various activities to participate in.

  • Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands

Situated on the southern coast of Mallorca, the largest city in the Balearic Islands archipelago is Palma. Mallorca’s cultural and economic hub is the 12th largest urban area in all of Spain. Palma has an area of 21.4 square kilometers, housing half the population of Mallorca and despite being compared to Barcelona and Florence, it is twinned with Naples, Italy. In 1983, Palma officially became the capital of the Balearic Islands. Originally founded by General Quintus Caecilius Metellus as a Roman camp in 123 B.C.E., the island of Mallorca was a part of the Tarraconensis province of Spain. The Romans established two ports, Pollentia to the northeast and Palma in the south. Palma was utilized as a port for Africa, while Pollentia was used for Roman cities in the northwest Mediterranean. Prior to the Muslim conquest and downfall of the Western Roman Empire, existed a period where the Byzantine Empire was on Mallorca. Due to the lack of documentation, the nature of this presence is unknown, but for the 10th century to 1229 A.D., Palma was under Islamic control as “Medina Mayurqa”. When James I of Aragon captured Palma in 1229, it was given municipality as “Cuitat de Mallorca”, and maintained as the capital of the Kingdom of Majorca. Perpignan and Palma became a joint capital of the Kingdom once James I of Aragon passed away. From 1229 onward, the foundations of Mallorcan society began to flourish, although various war-like events would soon take place. In 1391 began an anti-Jewish movement that forced the Jewish people to flee, convert, or be killed – actions that would ultimately be reinforced in the Inquisition. While the Revolt of 1450 was occurring, it was farmers that were then harassed. A river that divided the city would eventually spur social and economic issues as an Upper and Lower town of the city would be established. Mallorca was on the decline by the 16th century, and became a haven for pirates by the 17th century. Finally, the War of the Spanish Succession ended and destroyed the Crown of Aragon in 1714 when Barcelona fell. The city would eventually begin to thrive again as Charles III of Spain allowed commercial activity to bounce back by removing interdiction of commerce with the Spanish colonies in America. Once Algeria became occupied by France, fear of Maghredi attacks were eliminated, allowing further economic expansion with new maritime routes surfacing. Since 1950, Mallorca has become a prime tourist destination, growing from 600,000 visitors in 1960 to 19.2 million visitors by 2001. Tourists can view the old city, Arab baths, Palma Cathedral, Bellver Castle, or simply indulge in the beautiful Playa de S’amarador. For a glorious, picturesque scene of mountains, be sure to visit the Serra de Tramuntana and explore the UNESCO location overlooking the sea.

  • Alicante

  • Almeria

  • Motril for Granada

The port of Motril is the closest port to the ancient Moorish city of Granada, less than one hours drive up into the Sierra Nevada mountains. In Granada, the Alhambra, a Moorish citadel and palace, is the most famous building of the Andalusian Islamic historical legacy. Granada was the last Moorish city to surrender to the Christians during the "Reconquista" in 1492. The town of Motril is about two miles inland from the port. The beach of Playa Granada is a short walk from the dock to the fishing port.

  • Puerto Banus

  • Tangier

  • Cadiz

Cadiz is believed to have been founded some 3,000 years ago which could make this port city the oldest in Western Europe. The city has so much to offer its visitors with its commercial importance, stunning beaches, regional cuisine and the Unesco Awarded Donana National Park. There’s several significant landmarks in Cadiz, some of which include the yellow-domed Cathedral, the ancient roman theatre, an 18th-century watch tower, the city walls and so much more. SeaDream docks in the heart of this Andalusian town.

  • Malaga

Malaga, together with adjacent towns and municipalities such as Rincon de la Victoria, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Alhaurin de la Torre, Mijas, and Marbella, forms the Malaga Metropolitan area. The important cultural infrastructure and the rich artistic heritage have culminated in the nomination of Malaga as a candidate for the 2016 European Capital of Culture. The internationally acclaimed painter and sculptor Pablo Picasso and actor Antonio Banderas were both born in Malaga. SeaDream calls to Malaga both as an embarkation point as well as a typical port of call. Kindly check on the land adventures tab to see all of the activities and options. Description

Take a look behind the scenes at Spanish country life. Leaving the vibrant port of Puerto Banus, wander through the narrow, cobble-stoned streets of this pretty village and you will see why artists are attracted to this place, with its wonderful panoramic views over the Mediterranean Sea. Continue the guided walking tour towards the bullring. The Mijas bullring is quirky because of its unusual shape. It was built near the castle in 1900 due to high demand from the people of the area. However, because of the irregular shape and lie of the land where it was to be situated, it meant that they had to build an oval shape rather than the usual circle - making it unique in Spain. Our next stop will be the Contemporary Art Center of Mijas, a venue that can brag about having something in common with the great cities of Paris, New York, Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga. Pablo Picasso’s works are showcased in the CAC Mijas Contemporary Art Musem, in the center of Mijas village.
The route takes you to the inside of the Art Museum, where a private collection that holds 400 original masterpieces, some of Picasso’s great works and the World’s second largest Picasso ceramics will be displayed alongside world renown artists and friends such as cubist George Braque, japanese Fouijita, Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró.

Having visited the city center, you will discover one unique wine cellar in the area. “Descalzos Viejos” (the aged barefoot monks), was founded in the year 2000 and specially restored for the purpose of wine-making by the architects Francisco Retamero and Flavio Salesi and their respective wives, Chelo Porras and Mariela Grana. It is situated in the chapel of a sixteenth century Trinitarian monastery. In this building, perched on the higher slopes of the impressive Tajo of Ronda (the famous Gorge), they make wine from the 5.5 hectares of vineyards that have been planted on this property, and other 5 hectares in ward. During the visit, you will taste three types of wines, accompanied with some snacks.

  • Tangier - Tetouan – The White Dove

    Description

Discover charming Tetouan – a city in harmony with Arabic and Spanish influences. The architecture in Tetouan is a harmonious and fascinating blend of Arabic and Spanish styles, reflecting the town’s bicultural ancestry. Although Spanish is now rarely heard in Tetouan, the Spanish culture still plays a significant part in the life of the city. Andalusian music has remained dominant and trade with Ceuta, the Spanish enclave that is only about 25 miles away, keeps alive the historic links between the Arabic and Spanish culture.

Your visit starts with the main gate of the Royal Palace at Place Hassan II, together with some of the Spanish colonial architecture seen in the new town outside the medina around the Place Moulay El Mehdi (which lies just outside the world heritage property). Stroll around town to admire its little white homes representing a mix of Arab and Andalusian cultures, surrounded by lush vegetation. You can wander through the narrow streets of the old medina and souks, discovering all the hidden corners. Stop at a traditional teahouse to enjoy a refreshing glass of mint tea and Moroccan pastries. Conclude your visit of the Medina by an exit from one of its seven decorated gates Bab El Akla, the old town eastern gate looking onto the Museum of Moroccan Arts or Artisan School, where traditional art and craft skills are being kept alive and where the artisans are working on wood painting, embroidery, mosaics, copper, leather, stucco or inlaid wood with the same expertise as their ancestors four centuries ago.
