Civitavecchia is a major port located in Rome, primarily utilized for maritime transportation of goods, as well as a fishing port. The commune’s name means “ancient town” and is one of the “Motorways of the Sea” in the Mediterranean, functioning as one of the main links between the mainland of Italy and Sardinia. The ancient name of the port was “Centumcellae,” first mentioned in a letter written by Pliny the Younger in 107 A.D., although scholars debate on whether the name was about the number of rooms of the Trajan Villa, or the number of natural creeks on the coast. Civitavecchia is a part of the Lazio Territory, an area which was confirmed to have social groups since pre-historic times, and the modern town was built over a pre-existing settlement of the Etruscan people in 107-108 B.C.E. (who debated to have founded Rome).
In the beginning of the 2nd century, the harbor and town of Centumcellae were simultaneously developed by Emperor Trajan in the territory of Aquae Tauri. As the town became more popular for ships traveling westbound, the Thermal Baths were constructed on the hill of Ficoncella. Centumcellae flourished in the Imperial Age, and by 538 A.D., it had become a Byzantine stronghold. In 728 A.D., it became a member of the Papal States. The Saracens raided Centumcellae many times in the 9th century, prompting Pope Leo VII to have a newer and more secure settlement built by 854. The town, then known as Civita Vetula, was under the rule of several lords, and the Popes temporarily lost control during the French Rule in 1798-1815. In 1870 it entered the Kingdom of Italy. Civitavecchia was severely damaged during WWII, destroying many of the ancient monuments including Forte Michelangelo, which would be rebuilt in the 1950’s.
Popular points of interest include the Forte Michelangelo, Terme Taurine, and Cattedrale di San Francesco. There is a wealth of Roman and Vatican architecture and tourists are encouraged to visit many of the museums and take the cultural tours available in this important sea port.
Bonifacio is one of our favorite arrivals! As we approach, the Captain navigates along the limestone cliffs giving guests a sea view of incredible Bonifacio as well as the great Aragon steps leading to the water’s edge. Shortly after the pilot will embark and the Captain will turn the yacht around and back into this very impressive fjord-like marina. This could be one of our highest rated arrivals as the guests always find it both impressive and awe inspiring.
Ponza is a truly delightful island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, is part of the Pontine Island group and located in the region of Lazio. The island is uniquely shaped like a crescent moon. Its glistening blue coastline is varied and dramatic with several rocky coves and sandy beaches as well as numerous grottos, caves and craggy cliffs. The island has crystal clear waters and is ideal for sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving. You may want to explore some of the magnificent beaches or ask the officers to lead a nice bike ride across the island. Depending on the sea conditions and approval from the local authorities, we plan on offering full water sports anchored off this Italian gem.

Sitting pretty in the Gulf of Naples, just off the Sorrentine Peninsula, the island of Capri is well known today for its breathtaking landscapes and upscale beach resorts. The island has two harbors, Marina Piccola and Marina Grande. While human presence on the island can be dated back to the Neolithic and the Bronze Age, it was Emperor Augustus who most famously developed Capri by building villas, temples, and planted gardens. Popular to both visitors and native Italians alike, Capri is known for its boutique hotels, trendy restaurants, and annual international film festival, and is a favorite yachting destination. The island also offers many historic landmarks and highlights, including Grotta Azzurra, Villa Jovis, Giardini di Augusto, Certosa di San Giacomo, Villa San Michele di Axel Munthe, and the uniquely shaped Faraglioni Rocks. Mt. Solero marks the highest point of Capri, at 589 meters (about 1932 ft) at its peak. There is also a statue of Emperor Augustus on the mount, who first landed on Capri, over 900 species of vegetation, and, of course, incredible views. Two different hiking routes lead up the mountain and are worthy of exploration.

Sorrento is a small town in Campania just south of Naples in southern Italy. It is a highly popular tourist destination which can be reached easily from Naples and Pompeii, as it lies at the south-eastern end of the Circumvesuviana rail line. The town overlooks the Bay of Naples and is considered the key place of the Sorrentine Peninsula. It allows many viewpoints including Naples, Vesuvius and the Isle of Capri and Ischia. The most popular attraction from here and the absolute “must do” would be to visit the Unesco Heritage Site of Pompeii. Other Land Adventure options include a “hands on” cooking class at the Villa Ida and by special request, you can take a speed boat around the peninsula to Nerano to dine at the Quattro Passi. SeaDream provides a shuttle service to transfer guests from the marina to Piazza Tasso (Main square), although several also take the more active route – the stairs. Departing from Bonifacio by van, you will arrive at Sant’ Amanza beach to begin this excursion. There is a short briefing with the instructor before heading out with your guide. Experience the ride on the jet ski alone, or doubled up (you pay per jet ski used) and take in the stunning beauty surrounding you on a palette of turquoise blue sea. During this 90-minute ride you will cruise to Cavallo Island. This is internationally famous private island has a nature sanctuary and is located between Corsica and Sardinia, in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. If the weather permits, you will also visit the archipelago of the Lavezzi Islands. Enjoy cruising through the Marine Park and discovering the local islands on your jet ski. Drive along Ponza’s winding coastal roads on a private, air-conditioned coach, accompanied by your guide who introduces the island’s landscapes and villages. Departing from the quay, you travel first through the colorful district of Santa Maria, where pastel houses cluster around narrow lanes, before continuing toward Le Forna, Ponza’s traditional fishing village. The route follows a scenic ridge road lined with whitewashed homes and small courtyards, leading to a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the island’s eastern coastline and harbor.
From this elevated vantage point, a short ascent of a few steps reveals sweeping views across terraced cliffs and cobalt waters. The return journey follows the island’s most scenic stretch, where the wild silhouette of Palmarola appears on the horizon. Guests are required to walk approximately 100 meters (330 feet) between the quay and the bus at both the beginning and conclusion of the tour. A few steps are necessary at one of the panoramic viewpoints. Please note that shops on the island typically close between 1 PM and 4:30–5 PM. Ponza’s roads are narrow and winding, with frequent curves; guests who are sensitive to motion may wish to take this into consideration. Isola di Ponza is made up of spectacular bays, breathtaking cliffs, beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters. Some of the beauty of the island can only be truly appreciated by boat. On this Yachting Land Adventure you will cruise past the famous caves of Pilate, the ancient Roman pools entirely carved into the rock. Continuing on you navigate under the breathtaking Guardia Lighthouse built on a rock 80 meters high. Traveling around the point you will witness the stunningly beautiful beach of Chiaia di Luna.
Your island circumnavigation continues around Capo Bianco toward the Bay of Lucia Rosa featuring natural pools and the lovely cove called Ferns. As the ship returns to the harbor you can see the natural arch and visit the Core beach to admire a black heart set in the white rock. Close by is the famous Frontone Beach, with its unique cliffs in the shape of the Greek pediments. During the trip, there are usually two stops of about 30 minutes for swimming. The captain decides where and when to stop as it depends on the conditions of the day.

Perched on a 350-foot-high cliff overlooking the Gulf of Naples, is the intimate hillside village of Ravello. Travel by minibus up the mountain on this Yachting Land Adventure to discover Ravello's charms and visit Villa Rufolo with the garden that inspired Richard Wagner. Walk with your guide through this lovely village and enjoy approximately 45 minutes on your own to explore its shops and peek inside the cathedral, founded in 1086, which contains two medieval pulpits, Roman sarcophagi & paintings by southern Renaissance artist Andrea da Salerno.
Afterwards, enjoy a welcome aperitif at a local hotel in Ravello with outstanding views of the Amalfi coastline before driving back to Amalfi town. Brought to life by your guide, now you can see how citizens of the greatest empire of the world lived and loved, worked and played, ate and drank—and met their fateful death.
Your journey begins as you travel from Amalfi through mountain roads toward Pompeii while admiring Mount Vesuvius, the still-active historic volcano located 15 miles southeast of Naples. Entering Pompeii by foot at the Sea Gate you are soon in the Agorà, surrounded by temples, porticoes, and law courts.
20,000 people lived in this provincial town, of whom 2,000 perished in the catastrophic eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. Twenty feet of ashes and pumice stone covered Pompeii, much of which has been removed during the last 200 years to reveal details of everyday life. The mosaic floors and the brilliant frescoes that so delighted the Pompeians shine forth in all their undiminished glory. Explore baths and theaters, the wrestling ground, and luxurious villas and gardens, complete with plaster casts of the locals at the moment of Vesuvius’s eruption. Begin your exploration of Capri by stepping ashore and boarding a traditional Capri motor-launch for a scenic cruise along the island’s eastern coastline. Take this unique opportunity to visit a local farm in the beautiful countryside near Sorrento and sample some delicious Italian treats.
Travel from Sorrento into the hills above the port to arrive at a farm where you are greeted by the owner. He will accompany you on a tour of the farm and explain the processes that go into the production of his mozzarella cheese. As you explore the farm, be sure to admire the beautiful garden of lemon and olive trees. This beautiful spot is where your host will offer samples of bread, cheese, and salami. Soak up the relaxing ambiance of this natural environment away from the hustle and bustle of modern life and big cities.
After the farm visit, reboard the coach and proceed to the picturesque and popular resort town of Sorrento. The guide will reveal to you the streets of the historical centre before leaving you with some free time. Stroll along the Corso Italia or visit the Cathedral. You may, of course, prefer to relax in an open-air café and absorb the local atmosphere. Shoppers will delight in the array of souvenirs including beautiful, highly polished wood inlaid with marquetry. At the end of this tour, you can stay in the historical centre on your own or return with the guide back to rejoin the yacht at the tender pier.

Approximately a 10-minute uphill walk is required to reach the farmhouse, with moderate walking on uneven or rough terrain and some steps. Walking in Sorrento town is optional and at guests’ discretion. The tour is not wheelchair accessible. Casual attire and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. A minimum number of participants is required to operate all Yachting Land Adventures, and some may have limited capacity. Stroll through the charming resort town of Sorrento with a guide discovering its historical gems and sweeping vistas.
This guided walking tour covers the highlights of Sorrento. Visit the Valley of the Mills, where a thick canopy of centuries old greenery has enveloped an enchanted kingdom of its own. Admire such landmarks as the Sant’Antonio Basilica and the peaceful San Francesco Cloister, where you have wonderful views of Sorrento Bay from the public gardens. See the old fishing harbor and the glitzy modern marina. Set out to explore the town, stopping to appreciate the old-world architecture and characteristic Durazzo portals of the historic center. Along the way, listen as your guide fills you in on Sorrento’s fascinating history and heritage. At the end your tour, now filled with an intimate knowledge of the resort town, you will enjoy an Italian gelato, before returning to the tender pier to rejoin the Seadream yacht.
