  • Skagen - Skagen Stroll & Buried Church

    Description

Discover the charming fishing village of Skagen, Denmark’s northernmost town, whose history dates back to the 13th century. With your guide, wander through the lively harbor lined with colorful wooden houses and traditional fishing boats gently rocking in the water. From here, follow a scenic nature path to one of Skagen’s most extraordinary sights: the Buried Church, a natural phenomenon shaped by centuries of drifting sands. Dedicated to Saint Lawrence, the patron saint of seafarers, this 14th century church was once the largest in the region, but relentless sand drifts eventually forced worshippers to dig their way inside. By 1795 the struggle became impossible, and the church was closed by royal decree, today, only its whitewashed tower remains visible above the dunes.

After exploring this remarkable landmark, stroll back toward town and enjoy a refreshing cup of coffee and a Danish pastry at the Coastal Museum (Kystmuseet), an inviting open air museum offering a glimpse into Skagen’s past, complete with a charming replica of a historic local home. Following your break, continue your walk through Skagen’s delightful streets toward the marina, alive with boutique shops and cozy cafés. Conclude your visit with a picturesque photo stop before returning to your yacht.

    Notes

This tour involves an extended walk of up to three hours over a mix of pavement, gravel, and sandy terrain, including the approach to the Buried Church. The tour is not wheelchair accessible. • Rosendal - Bondhus Glacier Lake Hike

    Description

Hidden within a dramatic mountain valley near Rosendal lies Bondhus Lake, where ice, water, and silence meet in striking harmony. This guided walk follows one of the region’s most historic and scenic routes, offering a gentle yet rewarding introduction to Norway’s glacial landscape.

After a scenic drive along the fjord toward Sunndal, you arrive at the trailhead and begin your walk along the Bondhus Ice Road, a path built in 1822 to transport ice from the Folgefonna Glacier. The route unfolds gradually through woodland and open terrain, with waterfalls cascading down the surrounding cliffs as the valley widens ahead.

At Bondhus Lake, glacial meltwater gives the lake its remarkable turquoise clarity, reflecting the Bondhus Glacier arm and the surrounding peaks. There is time to pause, take photographs, and appreciate the scale and stillness of this iconic setting.

Following the walk, you are welcomed to a local farm for coffee or tea served with traditional lefse, providing a simple and authentic conclusion to your visit before returning to Rosendal.

This scenic journey from Reine combines spectacular coastal landscapes with encounters that reveal the region’s fishing traditions, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage.

Your tour begins with a drive through the southern islands of Lofoten, where narrow roads weave between towering granite peaks, sheltered fjords, and traditional fishing villages perched at the edge of the sea. Traveling through this striking landscape, you arrive in the village of Sund, long known as a center for fishing and boatbuilding.

At the Lofoten Fishery Museum, the region’s maritime history comes vividly to life.
