Treasures of Western Cuba

Guanahacabibes National Park covers the westernmost point of Cuba's main island. It’s one of the largest protected areas in the country with a size of more than 150 square miles (about 400 sq kms). Home to a variety of habitats including coral reefs, beaches, mangroves, scrublands, and evergreen forest, Guanahacabibes has more than 170 species of birds and dozens of reptile and mammal species. This is an excellent opportunity to spot endemic bird species such as the Cuban Trogon, popularly known as “Tocororo”, Cuba’s national bird, the Cuban Tody and the Cuban Green Woodpecker.

Start your educational yachting land adventure with a regional overview at the information center of Parque Nacional Guanahacabibes accompanied by your knowledgeable specialized guide. Enjoy an introduction to the natural heritage of the area with an engagement with a biologist who will explain the various conservation projects which are being developed.

You will also visit La Bajada Weather Forecast Center, one of Cuba’s eight weather stations to learn the important role weather forecast plays in an area frequently struck by hurricanes. Enjoy an opportunity to visit to a charming rural school. You will interact the children and learn about the Cuban education system. Feel free to bring school supplies for the children. Before heading back to port, additional time will be allotted to explore the premises.
