Diving at Maria La Gorda

Located in the western province of Pinar del Rio, in the Guanahacabibes Peninsula biosphere reserve, Maria la Gorda is known as one of the top diving spots in the Caribbean, and probably, one of the best in the world. An effort has been made to preserve this habitat which boasts an immense black coral reserve, the most colorful and exquisite marine life, hundreds of pirate stories and a few 18th century shipwrecks. It is currently one of the most protected areas in Cuba.

Cuban specialists will provide an educational marine ecology excursion as you will be transferred by boat from MarĂa la Gorda International Diving Center to explore the warm Cuban waters and the sea life that thrives there. Under the supervision of well-trained Cuban instructors, divers may easily come upon the remains of Spanish galleons, anchors and cannons. Experienced certified divers are encouraged to explore the vertical walls, as well as the many coral canyons, tunnels and caves. Dive amongst 20 species of coral fish such as barracuda, groupers, lobsters, eels and angelfish.
