Asturias is a region with a long coastline and green with fertile valleys, crossed by numerous rivers. For this reason, it has a great variety of fish and seafood, as well as: fruits, vegetables and excellent meats. That is the reason why Asturian cuisine is considered one of the richest and most varied in Spain.
This Yachting Land Adventure of Gijón is designed to bring you closer to the products and gastronomic delights of the region. The first stop is at the "Mercado del Sur", a food market built at the end of the 19th century, coinciding with an era of economic expansion and growth of the population of Gijon. There, you will have the opportunity to take in the fresh products of the area; fruits, vegetables, meats, as well as the varied offer of cold meats and Asturian cheeses. Asturias is one of the European regions with the highest production of cheese. Among the more than forty varieties of recognized cheeses produced in the region; those that have been obtained Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), such as: Cabrales cheese or Gamoneu cheese, will stand out.
The next stop is at one of the best stores specializing in selling high quality wines and gourmet products of the region. After a tasting of one of its excellent wines and other local products, you will continue, to the old quarter of Gijon for the last stop at a traditional Asturian tavern where you will taste some of the most typical Asturian dishes, accompanied by apple cider, the most produced and consumed beverage in this region.
