Trogir & Ancient Salona
Trogir & Ancient Salona
Trogir, a Croatian UNESCO World Heritage Site, is situated on a small island squeezed in between the mainland and the larger island of Ciovo. This Yachting Land Adventure visits both Trogir and Salona - the largest Roman excavation center in Croatia.
Travel by comfortable coach to discover the ancient ruins of Salona, where time has stopped in Solin, an ancient Roman site. At the time of its greatest prosperity (3rd and 4th century), Salona had nearly 40,000 inhabitants. Archaeologists have excavated the remains of Roman temples, amphitheaters, early Christian churches, burial grounds and baths. After touring through the ancient site of Salona you will travel back toward the charming town of Trogir driving along the Kastela Riviera.
Trogir, a Croatian UNESCO World Heritage Site, is connected to the mainland by a bridge. Except for some green parks, the entire island is occupied by distinctive stone-houses, palaces, churches, monasteries, towers, walls etc. The streets are narrow, and they provide a feeling of how life might have been in the past. You will visit the main attraction in Trogir - the Cathedral of St. Lawrence. This 13th century building is probably the finest example of sacral architecture in Croatia. The unusual construction with three naves and three semicircular apses dominates the whole town. The main portal carved by the local artist “Radovan” in the 13th century is world famous. Other fine buildings that will be viewed are the Town Loggia, the Town Hall, the Cipiko Palace, etc. before returning to the yacht.
