Departing from the pier in Portimão, travel by 4x4 toward the Serra de Monchique, following rural roads and off-road tracks through the inland Algarve. Along the way, pause outside a cork plantation to observe one of Portugal’s most characteristic natural resources and learn about the landscape in which cork oak trees grow. Continue into the mountain region, where pine and eucalyptus trees line the route and the scenery gradually changes from the coastal surroundings of Portimão to the quieter agricultural and wooded terrain of the Algarve interior.
Arrive in Monchique village and explore its traditional streets, where uneven surfaces and cobblestones reflect the settlement’s historic character. The journey then continues uphill toward Fóia, one of the highest points in the Algarve. From the viewpoint, take in broad views across the surrounding mountains and, in clear conditions, toward Portimão Bay. During the stop, visit a local handicraft shop and browse regional products, with approximately twenty minutes available for shopping before continuing through the mountain landscape.
Proceed to Monchicão for a visit focused on two local specialities: Portuguese honey and Medronho, a traditional fruit spirit often known as “firewater.” Learn about these regional products and enjoy a tasting that includes honey and one serving of Medronho at a local distillery. After the tasting, rejoin the 4x4 for the return drive through the Serra de Monchique and back toward the coast, concluding the tour at the pier in Portimão.
Notes: This tour involves a moderate activity level and includes walking over uneven and cobblestoned terrain. The tour is not accessible to guests with limited mobility. It is not suitable for pregnant guests or guests with neck, back, or joint issues and is not recommended for those who suffer from motion sickness, as the vehicles may travel over bumpy terrain. Transportation is by covered four-wheel-drive vehicle, with each vehicle accommodating up to six guests. The vehicles are not air-conditioned. The minimum age is six years, and guests must be at least 18 years old to be served alcohol. Car seats are required for children under 135 cm (4 feet 5 inches), while booster seats are required until children reach 150 cm (4 feet 11 inches) or 12 years of age. Guests travelling with children must confirm the required car seat or booster seat with the onboard team at least 48 hours before arrival in port. Views are weather-dependent.
This Yachting Land Adventure must be confirmed no later than 48 hours (2 days) prior to arrival in port; bookings may still be accepted after this deadline, up to the time of arrival, if space is available. Please note that cancellations made within 48 hours of arrival in port are non‑refundable. A minimum number of participants is required to operate all Yachting Land Adventures, and some may have limited capacity.
