Patras City & Achaia Claus Winery

Patras City & Achaia Claus Winery

Visit the unique city of Patras and taste some famous Peloponnesian wines at the historic Achaia Claus Winery.

Patras, at the top of the Peloponnese, is often the first stop for people coming to Greece by the ferry from Italy. This Yachting Land Adventure starts from the port driving toward the impressive Rio-Antirio bridge officially named the Charilaos Trikoupis bridge after the statesman who first envisioned it. It is the World’s longest multi-span cable-stayed bridge. It crosses the Gulf of Corinth near Patras, linking the town of Rion on the Peloponnese to Antirion on mainland Greece. A brief stop is made to take a great photo of this memorable bridge.

Next stop will be at the chateau of Achaia Clauss the first winery in Greece, built in 1854. Today 70% of the production is exported to 43 countries in Europe and worldwide. The reception room of the chateau is decorated with many international awards, together with the dedications of famous personalities who have visited the winery. Here you will have the opportunity to taste some of their fine wines along with local snacks. Then reboard the coach for a panoramic drive of Patra before reaching the impressive Saint Andreas church, the biggest Orthodox church in the Balkans. Beautiful religious paintings and icons decorate the interior, plus visitors can also see the saint's skull and part of the cross he was crucified on. The historic basilica was erected on the exact spot where Saint Andreas died a martyr to his faith. Following this interesting visit, you will board the coach for your way back to the pier.
