Heli Flight Over Montserrat Volcano
Heli Flight Over Montserrat Volcano
Experience a 45-minute private helicopter tour from Falmouth Marina to explore the Montserrat Volcano's "Exclusion Zone," witnessing the aftermath of past eruptions, including Plymouth, the former capital, and, if you're lucky, get a view of your cruise ship from above.
Prepare for a remarkable 45-minute private helicopter adventure departing from Falmouth Marina. This exclusive tour offers an immersive exploration of the Montserrat Volcano's "Exclusion Zone," an 80-square-kilometer area inaccessible to ground transportation and habitation. Your journey commences with a personalized welcome at your cruise ship, guided by an experienced tour leader to the helicopter pad, a scenic 40-minute drive from Falmouth Marina. Following a comprehensive orientation and safety briefing, you'll board your private helicopter for an informative, narrated tour of Montserrat's remarkable volcanic landscape.
While in the air, your skilled pilot will provide insights into the Soufriere Hills Volcano, an imposing 3,000-foot peak frequently emitting ash, smoke, and steam. The flight offers breathtaking views of the Tar River Gorge and Delta, formed by pyroclastic flows. As you look down, you'll witness the remnants of villages and the abandoned capital, Plymouth, buried under 40 feet of ash. Along the coastline, you'll observe the former W.H. Bramble Airport, left behind after the 1997 eruptions. Depending on the flight path, you might even enjoy a bird's-eye view of your cruise ship, making this an unforgettable experience.
Notes: The route may change based on weather and volcanic conditions. The flight typically lasts 45 to 50 minutes. Bring your passport for immigration clearance in both Antigua and Montserrat. Don't forget to bring a camera and sun protection.
