Amazing Barbuda
Encounter amazing Barbuda, a wonderful place famed for its deserted pink sand beaches, Frigate Bird Sanctuary, and crystal-clear waters.
Upon arrival on the jetty in Barbuda you will be transferred to your awaiting transportation with a knowledgeable local guide for a private sightseeing tour of Barbuda. The journey starts with a drive to the Martello Tower. This tower, 32 feet high, and a fort with 3 guns, was used as a lookout along the south coast and for sighting in-coming or wrecked ships. Any information from the tower was signaled onward to the village of Codrington, several miles north. This fort guarded the main anchorage on the south-western side of Barbuda.
Next drive through the small capital, Codrington where you will board an open wooden motorboat and visit the famous Frigate birds colony. On Barbuda is the largest Frigate Bird nesting gathering in the world with an estimated 1,500 Frigate Birds. Located towards the north end of the lagoon in a mangrove region, is where a significant nesting colony of the gracefully flying Frigate Bird will be visited.
On your return, transportation will be waiting to take you back to the jetty for your tender back to your SeaDream yacht.
Notes: Tourism in Barbuda is in its infancy and you will see there is tremendous development throughout the island. We strongly recommend you take advantage of one of the excursions to get the most out of your call to Barbuda. Please bring adequate sun protection, bathing costume and towel, a hat, a windbreaker (if rain or windy conditions prevail) and comfortable walking shoes. The natural smells in the rookery may be stronger if it is a hot day. And don’t forget your camera for those up close and memorable shots!
