Almeria City and Tapas

Almeria City and Tapas

Learn about Almeria’s rich history while exploring the Alcazaba Palace and the Almeria Cathedral, including a tapas tasting with Spanish wine.

Many ancient civilizations have come and passed through the once Arab stronghold of Almeria Spain. From the pier you will depart by motorcoach to the center of downtown Almeria for the start of the walking tour. You will visit the inside of the Alcazaba Palace of the Moorish Kings. Considered the largest Andalusian fortress on the Iberian Peninsula, it was a fortified citadel where the military and political powers of the time resided.

Next explore the Gothic and Renaissance architecture of the Almeria Cathedral. It was built both as a place of worship and to defend the city from attacks by Berber pirates. See the interior Gothic style naves with side chapels and exquisite altarpieces, plus glorious paintings and stunning sculptures. The 17th-century Convent of Las Puras, the Episcopal Palace, the Cervantes Theater and the Mercantile Center are other interesting points you will see along the walk. A stop at a local tapas bar is included for refreshments before returning to your Seadream yacht in port.
