One of Italy’s oldest cities, Cagliari traces its origins to the Phoenician settlement of ancient “Karalis,” the only colony on the island to endure through successive foreign dominations, each leaving distinct cultural and architectural influences. Today, the city presents a vibrant harbor framed by a fortified medieval nucleus built by the Pisans in the 13th century.
Your journey begins with a drive to the Basilica of Our Lady of Bonaria for an external visit. Overlooking the city and the sea, this revered sanctuary holds deep historical and spiritual significance for Sardinia.
Continue with a panoramic drive to the summit of Monte Urpinu, where sweeping views unfold across the city skyline and the sparkling Golfo degli Angeli.
From here, step into the heart of Cagliari’s Old Town for a guided walk through its historic quarters. Visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria, dating from the 13th and 14th centuries and built in Pisan Romanesque style, admired for its intricate doorway, notable artworks, and the two remarkable pulpits carved in 1160. Along the way, admire the medieval bell tower and the iconic Elephant Tower, both enduring symbols of the Pisan era. Your walk concludes at the Bastion of St Remy, offering magnificent views over the city and harbor and overlooking the charming Marina district with its maze of narrow streets and centuries-old buildings.
You then rejoin your coach for the return drive to the yacht.
