Royal Castles of North Zealand
Royal Castles of North Zealand
Venture into the rolling countryside and follow the breathtaking coastal road as you explore three of the most beautiful castles in Northern Zealand. Your first stop is Hillerød, home to the magnificent fairy-tale Frederiksborg Castle, an extraordinary example of Danish Renaissance architecture. Built in the 17th century, Frederiksborg now houses the Museum of National History, where you can admire historic portraits and paintings. Don’t miss the castle’s stunning chapel, home to the world’s oldest functioning organ, the 1610 Compenius Organ.
Your journey continues to Fredensborg Palace, one of the royal family’s favorite residences, especially held dear by Queen Margrethe. Built in the Baroque style, Fredensborg is often the setting for state visits and significant royal family events, such as the wedding of the King of Denmark, Frederik X, to Queen Mary. After a brief photo stop, the tour proceeds to a charming local inn for a traditional Danish lunch plate. This historic roadside inn, founded by royal grant from King Christian VI in 1740, serves classic Danish dishes in a cozy 18th-century atmosphere. Its motto: “Eat not to live, but live to eat.”
Next, you’ll visit one of Denmark’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Kronborg Castle. From its ramparts, enjoy sweeping views across the Sound and discover the castle’s famous connection to Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Lavishly decorated and enriched by centuries of maritime tolls from passing ships, Kronborg offers much to explore. Enjoy a guided tour of the chapel, courtyard, and grand banquet hall before returning to your coach for the journey back to your yacht in Copenhagen.
Notes: Due to the terrain and number of stairs, this tour is not suitable for guests with wheelchairs or walking difficulties. The drive to Frederiksborg Castle is approximately one hour. Frederiksborg and Kronborg Castles require extensive walking on uneven cobblestones, gravel, wooden floors, and historic surfaces, as well as navigating multiple staircases (approximately 100 steps at each castle). Kronborg also involves a 600 meter walk between the coach and the entrance. Comfortable, sturdy walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing are strongly recommended, as some areas may be cool or drafty. Gift shops at both castles accept major credit cards and Danish Kroner (DKK) only. A minimum number of participants is required to operate all Yachting Land Adventures, and some may have limited capacity. This Yachting Land Adventure must be confirmed no later than 96 hours (4 days) prior to arrival in port; bookings may still be accepted after this deadline, up to the time of arrival, if space is available. Please note that cancellations made within 96 hours of arrival in port are non‑refundable. Please book on the Seadream.com website, or onboard, early to avoid disappointment. All adventures in the SeaDream Yachting Land Adventures program are subject to change. Final departure times will be published on board.
