Rostock’s Old Town Tour & Tastings

Rostock’s Old Town Tour & Tastings

In Warnemunde, you will step back in time and depart on a short coach transfer to aboard an authentic vintage tram for a delightful 25-minute journey into Rostock's city center, once the bustling hub of its transportation system.

Embark on a captivating, guided walk through Mecklenburg Vorpommern’s largest city. Begin at the prestigious University of Rostock, founded in 1419 and renowned for its striking Italian Renaissance architecture. Wander through the charming Kroepeliner Strasse and Am Neuen Markt, vibrant streets brimming with post-reunification energy and historic charm, despite extensive World War II destruction. Marvel at the iconic pink Town Hall, showcasing a Gothic facade adorned with seven turrets and an 18th-century Baroque addition.

Nearby, discover the grandeur of St. Mary’s Church, a masterpiece of red brick Gothic architecture dating back to 1398.

Inside St. Mary’s Church, immerse yourself in its rich cultural heritage during your guided tour thereof and also learn more about its unique astronomical clock from 1472 and its intricate mechanism and historical significance.

Afterwards, enjoy leisure time for personal exploration (maybe climb up to the church tower, 210 steps) or shopping before indulging in a local Schnapps tasting at a traditional pub, offering a taste of regional flavors and hospitality. Conclude your enriching day with a leisurely walk to the riverside jetty, where you’ll embark on a scenic Warnow River cruise back to Warnemuende. Savor refreshments onboard, choosing from local German beer or sparkling "Champagne" to complement your journey through Rostock’s storied past and vibrant present.

Notes: Due to the considerable amount of walking, we do not recommend this tour to passengers with walking difficulties. The tram is chartered exclusively for our guests, however note the return is by a public boat, rather than private. Access to the church tower involves climbing 210 steps and the tour sequence may vary.

Please note not all shops/restaurants accept credit cards; if they do, Visa and MasterCard are commonly accepted. Restaurant toilets are usually free, but expect to pay around €0.50 for public facilities, which may require local coins. Tour order may vary. Please wear comfortable shoes and layered clothing for changing weather.
