Your journey begins at Hopperstad Stave Church, an architectural gem dating back to 1130. Together with Urnes, it is one of the oldest surviving stave churches in Norway. This intricately decorated structure was nearly lost to time, but thanks to dedicated cultural conservation efforts, it stands today as a remarkable testament to Viking-era craftsmanship and medieval heritage.

Next, you’ll head to Blix Hotel, nestled in the heart of Vik, for a tasting of “gamalost”, a traditional Norwegian cheese with roots tracing back to the Viking Age. Produced locally at the Vik dairy, this bold, aged cheese is paired perfectly with refreshing, locally made raspberry juice, offering a true taste of the region.

Your tour concludes with a visit to the Vikøyri beach dweller settlement, where charming small homes and boathouses line the shore. Step inside one of these well-preserved dwellings, left untouched since the old days, for a fascinating glimpse into the lives of those who once called this unique settlement home.

Notes: This tour involves approximately 3.5 km (2.2 miles) of walking at a relaxed pace. Surfaces vary throughout and include both flat and uneven terrain. At Hopperstad Stave Church, guests will encounter uneven ground and low thresholds, and standing is required during the guided visit inside the church. In the Vikøyri settlement, walking continues over a mix of flat and irregular surfaces, while the return route to the pier follows paved pathways. As weather conditions along the Sognefjord can change quickly, dressing in layers appropriate to the forecast is recommended.
