Rosenborg Castle and Tivoli Garden
Rosenborg Castle and Tivoli Garden
Copenhagen is a city of castles and fairy tales, and on this Yachting Land Adventures you will experience some of its most enchanting highlights. Begin your day by meeting your local guide at the pier before boarding a comfortable coach for a grand tour of Denmark’s capital.
Your first stop is Rosenborg Castle, a magnificent Renaissance landmark set in the heart of the city. Built between 1606 and 1607 by King Christian IV in the Dutch Renaissance style, Rosenborg was originally intended as a summer retreat but went on to serve as a royal residence for nearly a century. Since 1838, the castle has been a museum, showcasing an extraordinary collection of royal artifacts from the reigns of Christian IV through Frederik VII. In the basement, you’ll find the Royal Treasury, home to countless treasures, including the dazzling Danish crown jewels and regalia adorned with gold, diamonds, and precious stones. Your guided tour will lead you through three floors and nearly 300 years of Danish history.
The tour continues with a visit to the iconic Tivoli Gardens, one of the world’s oldest amusement parks, having opened on August 15, 1843. Tivoli has enchanted visitors since its earliest days with exotic architecture inspired by a fantastical Orient, vibrant flower gardens, theatres, bandstands, cafés, and early mechanical rides such as a merry-go-round and a primitive roller coaster. Among its many notable guests was Hans Christian Andersen himself, and today the park features a building named after him: the H.C. Andersen Castle, now used for events and meetings.
Your first stop inside Tivoli is the historic restaurant Grøften, a beloved Copenhagen institution that has operated for around 150 years. Here, you will enjoy a tasting of traditional Danish dishes before having free time to stroll the gardens, admire the elaborate floral displays, or simply soak up the magical atmosphere of this charming place.
Afterward, rejoin your local guide for the return drive to the yacht.
