Rosenborg castle and Tivoli Garden

Rosenborg castle and Tivoli Garden

Copenhagen is a city of castles and fairytales and on this tour you will get to experience the some of the highlights. Start this tour by meeting your local guide on the pier and board a coach before setting off on a grand tour of the capital city of Denmark. Drive through the city and enjoy a visit to Rosenborg castle, a stunning Renaissance castle located in the heart of Copenhagen. Built by King Christian IV from 1606 to 1607 in the Dutch-Renaissance style, Rosenborg Castle was originally intended as a country summer house but served as the royal residence for about 100 years. Since 1838, the castle has acted as a museum, housing a collection of items that have belonged to the Danish kings, from Christian IV to Frederik VII. The basement houses the Royal Treasury and displays countless treasures, including the Danish crown jewels and regalia that gleam with gold, diamonds, and precious stones. Your guided tour of the castle will take you through 3 floors and almost 300 years of Danish history.

Next up is a visit to Tivoli - Tivoli Gardens is a famous amusement park and pleasure garden in Copenhagen. The park opened on August 15, 1843 and is one of the oldest amusement parks to survive intact to the present day. From the very start, Tivoli included a variety of attractions: buildings in the exotic style of an imaginary Orient: a theatre, band stands, restaurants and cafés, flower gardens, and mechanical amusement rides such as a merry-go-round and a primitive rollercoaster. Since its opening the park has had prominent visitors such as the world-famous fairytale author Hans Christian Andersen and the park even has a building named after him called H.C. Andersen castle – today a venue for events and meetings. First stop in Tivoli is a visit to one of the oldest establishments, restaurant Grøften. This restaurant has existed for around 150 years and is an institution in Copenhagen that everyone is familiar with. Enjoy a tasting of traditional Danish food before having some free time to explore the rest of Tivoli with its amazing flower arrangements or enjoy the atmosphere of this magical place. Rejoin with your local guide for a return drive to the Yacht.
