Salmon Eye - The World's largest floating art installation
Salmon Eye - The World's largest floating art installation
Floating quietly in the heart of the Hardangerfjord, Salmon Eye is impossible to overlook, a bold architectural statement shaped like a fish’s eye and a powerful space for reflection on the future of food from the sea. This visit offers SeaDream guests a rare opportunity to engage thoughtfully with one of Norway’s most important modern industries.
More than a visitor center, Salmon Eye is the world’s largest floating art installation, designed to provoke dialogue rather than provide simple answers. Developed with input from experts in research, environmental protection, management, and industry, the exhibition presents aquaculture in a balanced and transparent way, highlighting both its potential and its challenges.
Through immersive displays and carefully curated storytelling, the experience explores how modern aquaculture operates, how it affects marine ecosystems, and how innovation is shaping more sustainable practices. Set against the calm fjord landscape, this visit blends contemporary art, environmental awareness, and Norwegian innovation, encouraging reflection on how the ocean can contribute responsibly to feeding a growing global population.
Notes: This excursion includes open-water boat transfers in the Hardangerfjord, with a 15-minute transfer each way. Guests are required to step on and off the boat. The experience involves both indoor and outdoor walking. Stairs are present inside Salmon Eye, and step transitions are required at the salmon farming facility. It is recommended to dress in layered clothing and wear comfortable walking shoes.
