Historic Visby with "Fika"
Visit Visby, the capital of Gotland, and embark on a captivating guided walking tour through this remarkably preserved medieval stone city. Immerse yourself in its rich history, from the Viking Age and flourishing medieval period to the rise of the powerful Hanseatic League.
Begin your journey at Almedalen, the former medieval harbor now transformed into a scenic park with breathtaking views over the city. Stroll along the well-preserved town walls, marveling at the 44 towers that once guarded Visby’s treasures. Explore the charming gabled warehouses, and pause at the Gunpowder Tower, the oldest surviving building in Visby.
Wander through the narrow, winding streets to the beautifully cultivated Botanical Garden, known locally as "Botan," lovingly maintained by the Society of DBW. A highlight of your tour is a visit to the Fornsalen Museum, where a rich collection of artifacts offers a fascinating glimpse into Gotland’s layered past.
Continue along the cobbled lanes to a hidden garden, where you'll hear stories of the old neighborhood—of fishermen, hatters, and cobblers—while enjoying a traditional Swedish "Fika" break. Delight in a serving of Saffron Pancake, a beloved Gotland specialty made from rice pudding, cream, and saffron, baked to perfection and served with whipped cream and jam, accompanied by coffee or tea.
Finally, visit the impressive Visby Cathedral, originally built for German merchants, before returning to your Yacht.
