Cooking With Ras Iroy: Farm, Fire & Flavor
Cooking With Ras Iroy: Farm, Fire & Flavor
Step into a different rhythm of life on Nevis as Ras Iroy welcomes you to his small farm for an authentic culinary and cultural experience unlike any other.
Part farmer, part cook, and part storyteller, Ras Iroy introduces guests to the Rastafarian philosophy of Ital cooking, where fresh ingredients, simplicity, and a deep respect for nature come together to create wholesome and flavorful meals.
Your experience begins with a walk through the farm, where you'll discover a variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices grown on the property. Together with Ras Iroy, you'll harvest seasonal ingredients and learn how they are used in traditional Caribbean Rastafarian cooking.
The highlight of the experience is preparing an authentic meal slowly cooked in locally made clay pots over an open fire. Guests work in pairs, with every two participants typically sharing their own clay pot, creating a hands-on and interactive cooking experience. As the meal simmers, Ras Iroy shares stories of island life, farming traditions, Rastafarian culture, and the connection between food, community, and the land.
Finally, gather around the table to enjoy the meal you created, prepared with fresh ingredients harvested just moments before.
Authentic, hands-on, and deeply personal, this experience offers a rare opportunity to connect with the people, traditions, and flavors that make Nevis so special.
Notes: Guests should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes suitable for walking on natural farm terrain.
