Departing from the port you will first get acquainted with the lovely little maritime town of Mariehamn. We will see the towns’ two waterfronts, the tall ship S/Y Pommern and the wooden houses from around the year 1900.
A detour south of Mariehamn takes you over a chain of islands, linked by a road bridge. Enjoy the beautiful archipelago when touring the islands of Järsö from the comfort of your bus, and if you are lucky, you might even get a glimpse of the birdlife.
Continue onwards to the municipality of Sund and make a photostop at the Bomarsund castle ruins. This fortress takes you back to the 19th century and tells the tale of the period of Russion occupation of Åland.
A short drive away we stop at the openair museum Jan-Karlsgården, taking us back about 150 years in time. The guide will show you around the area, with a farm from 1850 being its main part, including a main house, stables and several small sheds and houses used for varying purposes.
After your stroll around the museum grounds, you will walk to Åland Distillery just next door. The distillery tour and tasting includes small glasses of spirits and liqueurs, produced right on the premises. Under the guidance of the distillery staff, you get to try different liqueurs together with some savories. You will learn how the spirits are produced and get to visit the distillery.
After this visit we will return to Mariehamn and your ship. On the way back make you will make a photo stop outside Kastelholm Castle, one of only five existing fortresses in Finland from the Middle ages. From about 1390 and up to the late 18th century it was the central point of the Swedish kings’ administration on Åland.

This tour involves intermittent physical activity, including walking medium distances over uneven surfaces and/or steps.
What to Wear:
Casual attire appropriate for the weather is recommended. Comfortable walking shoes are essential.
