Walking Tour of Klaipėda Old Town - Sculptures, Stories & History

Your tour begins just steps from the Cruise Ship Terminal, beside the well-loved Childhood Dream sculpture - a boy and his dog gazing out to sea. From here, enjoy views of sleek yachts and small boats moored in the marina, before crossing the Rotary Bridge and learning about the legacy and future of Klaipėda’s castle.

Stroll into Theatre Square, the beating heart of Klaipėda, where festivals take place each summer, including the famous Sea Festival. Admire the statue of Ann from Tharau, the city’s most iconic symbol, surrounded by charming fachwerk architecture reminiscent of the city's German past.

As you explore the Old Town, you'll notice the strikingly regular layout of the streets, with most intersecting at right angles. Your guide will bring this history to life while pointing out architectural highlights and hidden gems along the way.

You'll also discover several whimsical sculptures that have become beloved local attractions. See the Cat with a Gentleman’s Face, which mysteriously disappeared for a time before being restored to its place in 2006. Look for the tiny Magical Mouse sculpture - legend has it that it grants wishes. The Dragon sculpture, inspired by a local legend about the city’s founding, is another highlight.

The tour continues to John’s Hill, where the only surviving ravelin of Klaipėda’s old fortifications remains. Your guide will share insights into the city's centuries-old defensive structures, their design, and their eventual removal.
