Begin with a 30-minute transfer from the pier to Bilbao city center. Upon arrival, continue with a panoramic drive through the city’s principal districts as your guide introduces its history and architecture. Follow the course of the Nervión River and pass the Guggenheim Museum, whose titanium-clad curves have redefined Bilbao’s waterfront. The route proceeds toward the historic heart of the city, skirting the Casco Viejo, where the original seven medieval streets form the foundation of Bilbao, and passing Plaza Nueva, an elegant neoclassical square framed by arcaded façades.
Following the panoramic drive, continue on foot to a traditional local bar located in the heart of the city for a one-hour tasting experience. During this stop, guests are introduced to pintxos, a classic expression of Basque cuisine and an essential part of Bilbao’s culinary identity. Served in an authentic and lively setting, this tasting offers a genuine introduction to local flavors. The experience is complemented by a beverage served at the bar before continuing with the exploration of the city.
After the tasting, begin your guided walk through the Old Quarter, passing landmarks that define Bilbao’s identity. Walk past Santiago Cathedral, founded in the 14th century, and note its Gothic façade and cloister from outside. Continue toward the Mercado de la Ribera, one of Europe’s largest covered markets, and follow the riverbanks that once supported the city’s iron and steel trade. The tour concludes with free time to browse local boutiques and specialty shops before returning by coach to the pier.
Notes: This tour involves a moderate level of activity, including walking over uneven surfaces and occasional steps. It is not recommended for guests with reduced mobility or those who are wheelchair-confined. Comfortable walking shoes are strongly advised.
