Porto Cervo on Foot
Porto Cervo on Foot
Set in the heart of the Costa Smeralda, Porto Cervo reveals itself as a carefully designed enclave of Mediterranean elegance. Your experience begins in the town center, where you meet your guide and set off on foot through pastel-colored façades, refined arcades, and carefully landscaped terraces overlooking the marina. As you walk along smooth asphalt pathways and cross a charming wooden bridge, you will observe the harmonious architecture commissioned in the early 1960s under the vision of the Aga Khan, whose development transformed this once-quiet coastline into an international yachting destination.
Your stroll continues at the sophisticated Promenade du Port, a waterfront promenade lined with contemporary art galleries, designer boutiques, and polished cafés facing rows of impressive superyachts. From here, you proceed toward La Piazzetta, Porto Cervo’s central square, connected by gentle inclines and short sections of steps that link the town’s three distinct levels. The square serves as a lively gathering point, where elegant storefronts showcase Sardinian filigree jewelry, embroidered textiles, and internationally renowned fashion houses. A stop at a local bar allows you to enjoy a hot beverage or soft drink while observing daily life unfold around you.
The walk concludes at the striking Stella Maris Church, positioned above the marina and reached on foot through the upper part of town. Designed by architect Michele Busiri Vici, the whitewashed structure blends with the granite landscape and frames uninterrupted views across the harbor and open sea. From this elevated vantage point, you can clearly appreciate the town’s thoughtful layout, terracotta rooftops, and curved harbor embracing the yachts below, providing a refined and distinctly Sardinian finale to your exploration.
Notes: The tour requires intermittent effort throughout and includes walking medium distances over uneven surfaces and steps.
