Pompeii: From Ancient Ruins to Roman Table
Pompeii: From Ancient Ruins to Roman Table
Travel from Sorrento along the Sorrento Coast, with views of Mount Vesuvius rising approximately 24 km (15 miles) to the southeast, to reach the archaeological site of Pompeii. Accompanied by your licensed guide, enter the excavations for an in-depth exploration of streets, villas, baths, and taverns preserved beneath volcanic ash. At designated points, use augmented reality headsets to compare the present-day ruins with three-dimensional reconstructions of the city as it stood nearly 2,000 years ago, observing frescoed dining rooms, market stalls, and household courtyards as they once appeared.
As you walk along cobbled streets and through residential quarters, discover evidence of Pompeii’s long-standing viticultural tradition, visible in frescoes, wine shops, and large clay dolia once used for fermentation and storage. After the visit, proceed to a nearby winery for a welcome in the cellar, where a flute and a glass of wine served from the amphora introduce the estate’s approach to winemaking. Continue to a private dining area beneath a pergola, where a dedicated sommelier presents a Roman-inspired lunch paired with five wines produced on site.
The experience begins with a tasting of estate-produced olive oil served with freshly prepared bruschetta. You then enjoy a Roman-inspired lunch showcasing regional Campanian cuisine, featuring seasonal ingredients and traditional recipes. Each course is thoughtfully paired with wines produced on the estate and presented by your private sommelier. After lunch, visit the estate’s Roman necropolis and experimental vineyard before rejoining your private transportation for the return drive to Sorrento and your yacht.
